Thanks to the Mario Kart Wii community for having an incredible scene.  Absolutely could not have done it without them.  The following people should be particularly credited for helping greatly with research:

Braixen: https://www.twitch.tv/bbraixen

Additionally, I had a small group of people help me with my first Mario Kart Wii video a couple years ago.  The following two people helped me immensely:

SwordofSeals

I’ve loved covering the community in the two videos I’ve made so far, and hope to make more down the road as these players break the game even more!

>eats a bag of Oreos in 3 min
>Gets 20 second record
>"Over time, this method would be improved"
>me thinking the TAS eats two bags of Oreos in 3 min

"So what is an ultra shortcut?
Well, imagine a bus that skips most of its route and still makes it to its stop."

My favorite thing about Summoning Salt is how he talks like a professor describing historical figures but all the names were made up by teenagers on the internet.

Me: Please can I have the good chemicals
My brain: No
Summoning Salt: Plays some cool music for a few seconds after saying the name of a track from Mario Kart Wii
My brain: Now you may have the good chemicals

I’m convinced Summoning Salt could make a 50 minute narration of his breakfast work.

“But in the span of less than ten minutes, not one, but THREE new condiments were consumed. Welcome... to Triple-Berry Jam City.”

The most impressive thing about all this is that the guy managed to eat an entire pack of Oreos in 3 minutes

Imagine you went to Heaven but God said:
"You missed the 0 Region"

15.25 "and he chose to spend his 3 minute wait eating an entire pack of Oreo Cookies. A couple of weeks later this method was improved in a TAS"
Didnt know there is TAS optimization when it comes to eating cookies.

Here we go again!

Dad: "Son please can we just play normally"

Ok can we just take a moment to appreciate how Salt called the Rainbow Road ultra shortcut the “holy grail”, and Arthur was the one to claim it? That’s perfect wordplay

2025 update: A new, more reliable way to hit the Rainbow Road Ultra Shortcut was found someone hit the 3/3 for the first time!

Imagine you went to heaven, but god said

”The lap didn’t count”

I cannot describe how good this is. All the emotions it brings... Being part of it makes it even better. Just, thank you.

Summoning Salt is one of the few youtubers that can actually make you emotionally invested into the story that he presents to you, it starts off with the discovery of the methods to save time, then eventually becomes focused on the people trying to get world records. In the end while the times are impressive, it's all about the journey the people went through to get them. Truly beautiful stuff

44:09 the delight in his voice when he says "hello SummoningSalt!" so wholesome

Koopa Cape has finally been done humanly through a new method discovered 2 days ago, so this video was just a tiny bit too early. Oof.

If anyone asks me what happened in 2020, I'm saying "Ah yes, the year of the Ultra Shortcut" and nothing else

"Logan about to be the star if summoningsalt makes ultra shortcut part 2"

They're learning.
