Thanks for honoring Spirit with the addendum.
Spirit was a significant force in rock music, and their legacy will grow.

12 Dreams is one of my favorite albums, love it.

I was 13 in 1983 and I saw a local TV Show called FM TV that showed a bunch of classic rock bands.  They show the song 1984 at the Beat Club.  It was my first exposure and I became a lifelong fan ever since.  I met Randy & Ed a few times in the 1990s before & after Cleveland, Ohio shows.

Thanks for the extra time devoted to a truly great group.

Spirit was hugely popular in Salt Lake City from 68-71.  I saw them 6 times and they were terrific live.  I’ve always felt their willingness to fuse jazz with rock paved the way for many bands who followed like Steely Dan.  They were highly respected by other musicians and very influential.  Their first four albums still sound fresh nearly sixty years after original release.

Well researched on a very understated and underappreciated band.

Future Games is so ahead of its time that it is still a mind-boggling expérience to live through today! The way these incredible songs emerge from the statics, sometimes  for a frustratingly brief time before diving back into the droning noise is unbelievable. All this and, in my opinion, the best ever version of All Along the Watchtower with its multiple guitar layers and Star Trek overdubs… Yes, this is THAT kind of record!
Thanks for the great review!

"Spirit left us with some really good material..." Thats an understatement!  Yeah they did and then some!

I absolutely loved SPIRIT!

Thanks again Matt,  for giving  Randy and Spirit so much time.   You do a fabulous job!

As a member of The Records in 1979 we recorded and released’1984’. Played it live on our US tour that year. It was at my insistence that we covered it, it was an audience favorite and considered as a follow up to’Starry Eyes’. In my opinion that would have been a good idea! Because I sang lead on it it was 86’d; to use a ‘topical’ remark. I always loved the band and am still proud of our recording. Love you Randy and RIP. Wonderful musician❤️❤️

Thanks for responding on Randy's solo career. He died too young and he died a Hero. God Bless and keep on truckin'

My older bro was a spirit fan. I remember hearing Uncle Jack for the first time, I would say I was nine. It was total ear candy for me and became a young fan playing my brothers albums. ❤

Back in the 60's, my three fave bands were Spirit, Jimi and his Exp., and the Jeff. Airplane.   Simple.

Love Spirit, Thanks for this.

Since about 1969 spirit has been one of my go to bands. They would definitely be on the top 10 desert Island bands for me just the first four albums blow you away thank you Matt. Great work as usual spirit one of the greatest.

I know a close friend of Randy California (to this day he talks to his mother regularly).  He says Randy was firmly against suing Zeppelin, which is why the suit happened only after his passing.

So much information about Spirit, it took over an hour in total to tell the story. Thank you Matt for the addendum. It was good to fill the gaps. Your band/ artist histories are always great…don’t ever get self conscious that they’re running long. They are as long as they need to be to tell the story.

Nice Addendum Matt 👍 Great that you highlighted Randy California who is IMO an underrated and overlooked guitarrist. After watching your band history of Spirit its hard to believe that not only did they not play at The Monterey Pop Festival and Woidstock- but also The Isle of Wight Festival!!! Im sure this band would have been phenomenal had they played these shows- what a bummer.

Keep Spirit alive!
