I’m an aircraft engineer, I wore my 1861 speedmaster everysingle day for 15 years until it finally needed a service (main spring snapped, reduced power reserve when wound however still kept great time)

I can absolutely say that the 1861 is a fantastic movement that can take a real beating.

1957 50th anniversary broad arrow for me with 3313 automatic movement, disp[lay caseback. really a sleeper!

For me, the Speedy 57, black sandwich dial variant with bicompax layout & date window. Perfection.

Born in 54, I grew up following the space program and the race to the moon. All the lunar landings took place while I was in high school. So naturally my wife got the 1861 with that domed acrylic crystal for our 40th in 1980, This is the only historically important watch. In a thousand years our descendants will know who took the first steps on another world and they will be able to see this watch in any air and space museum. All other watches will simply be forgotten. I even like the lack of hacking, true to the capabilities of the speedys that went to the moon. Neal didn't hack his speedy when the mission clock failed and his speedy became the mission timepiece. It recorded the mission in real time, unhacked speedy time. And so it is with my speedy. It provides my own unique measure of the moment.

Never should you ever replace this watch

I just got this 1962 remake as a birth watch for my grandson. Of course I have to wear it and take photos lol.  The year I was born is on the watch. He’ll get a kick out of this. Lol

The 3861 Hesalite for me is the perfect watch

I have a 3590.50 from the 90s. Last Speedy with tritium markers, which now has a beautiful, real, patina. Never getting rid of it.

I have a Rolex Explorer II black dial that I bought new in 2002 that is in for an overhaul at a RSC. When it comes back, I'm probably going to sell it and get the current Speedy 57 with the black sandwich dial. I like the fact that it is a manual-wind watch and is fairly thin at about 13 mm. I only wish that Omega could have updated the movement on this watch to the version on the Super Racing, with its 0 - 2 sec/day accuracy.

I like the "Trilogy" version of your watch, but with the straight lugs and unique small pushers/narrow bezel. Also love the original FOiS on Forstner mesh bracelet for neat, clear appearence and  faithfulness to Schirra's. Great comparisons, thanks.

Great overview. The 3570.50 1861 Hesalite is the speedy for me. It’s the cheapest used Pro you can get, they are affordable to service, and that movement has flown a ton in space. There’s nothing unique about it compared to the models before and after it, which makes it the perfect tool for me.

The 50 meters water resistance is the exact pressure they test every watch to, to be METAS certified so every modern 3861 Speedy is tested to that depth no matter what.

3861 sapphire sandwich is the perfect Speedy for me.

The original FOIS is my favorite! It's the perfect combination of elegance and ruggedness. The only downside is that you can't get an original Omega bracelet for it but it's beautiful.

XD my brother has a last generation moonwatch with hesalite, he only wears it 4-5x a year usually when he goes to watch some car races, it's pretty big and thick for smaller wrist; definitly iconic though

Was at the AD i frequent the other day. Just talking about watches with their watchmaker. He said if the dictionary ever needed a picture of a watch or the perfect watch. A speedmaster would be it. I agree. Great vid and great content keep it up!

My trouble is not finding my perfect Speedmaster but narrowing it down from about 5 perfect Speedmasters 🤦‍♂️

TBQH you forgot one speedy alternative, and probably the cheapest you're gonna get while still looking iconic.  The Timex Q TW2W68900.

My Speedy 3861 is the only watch I get compliments on, not my rolex, or Tudor’s. Just bought the 1965 Moonswatch and this has shown me that I need the white dial speedmaster.

Ive had multiple watches. My EDC watch is a Tudor Pelagos. Its a beast. I have banged that watch like a hammer. Not a mark on it. Its extremely legible. I love all my watches, but that Tudor is my go to watch. Its extremely comfortable with the spring extension clasp. Mine has the black face, so its stealth. My next watch in rotation is an Omega Seamaster. The green face with the stainless rice strap. Thats a nice EDC watch too. I have thick wrists so the Speedmaster doesnt fit well on my wrist. But its a watch I wish I could wear daily.
