Krokbragd: Weaving Structure Deep Dive

The Weft Wright

Krokbragd is one of the most enjoyable weaving structures I've ever explored, but planning designs has always felt more complicated than it needed to be. In this video, I introduce my free Krokbragd Visualizer, walk through how it works, and then put it to the test by weaving a real sample directly from the generated color sequence.

This is a longer, mostly real-time weaving video. I intentionally left many of the mistakes, corrections, and weaving process intact so you can see what Krokbragd weaving is actually like. If you'd rather jump around, feel free to use the chapter markers below.

Thank you so much for this and for the design tool. Really inspirational and thank you for leaving in the little glitches - it's not just me that has these things happen now and again then! 😂 This really needs to be seen by more weavers. It's the best explanation and demonstration of krokbragd that I have seen

Hi Trent. Great video. Krokbragd absolutely enchants me and I am trying to learn more about it. Angie Parker's recently published book is a great resource as she has detailed information on many topics, including selvedges and weaving with one or multiple colors/shuttles.

She states, "The most valuable and important thing to know when weaving Krokbragd is that when using more than one shuttle, the weft does not and must not go around the selvedge on every pick. However both selvedges must be wrapped once in each pass (three pick sequence)*." *There are exceptions because this is an annoying technique, but generally, the above is correct for most passes." Parker then goes in to much greater, and so very helpful, detail.

If you have a chance to buy or borrow her book, I highly recommend it. Debby Greenlaw's book is great as well, but Parker's explanations are easier for me to grasp.

I always enjoy your videos and hope to see more Krokbragd content in the future.

This is amazing. Such a great tool!

Just to add that Tom Kniseley says that we all have to live with imperfect selvedges with krokbragd! I tried it and also the 4 sequence version which is also fun. My tip is not to go for a top / bottom mirrored design because then all your mistakes look like design choices - no one will ever know. Having seen your design tool I think am going to make a bedside table mat. And then a wall hanging for my study. Thanks again.

Question for anyone who is familiar with krokbradg. I’ve woven quite a few and was under the impression in order to get the nicest selvages even when you’re working with the same two out of three colors it’s important to have three shuttles so that as you’re throwing them in sequence, the selvages are consistently wrapped—- thoughts? I also found the tool to be unavailable so we would love to have it back again. Sorry got hacked. That sucks big time I would still like to buy a cup of coffee. How can I do that?
