2:36 You might mention this later in this video, but something I'll add to this: materials and their quality, such as lightfastness (i.e. how long a certain art material like paint will be able to withstand being on someone's wall etc.). Like, some people, even some buyers, don't really care about that, but others do. Especially in the more "professional" art spaces.

I think tyler definitely was tracing personally, and I don't understand how he justifies his artworks pricing. I have sold artworks at 4000$, but that's after YEARS of commission and painting experience, and it was for an absolutely monstrously huge commission painting. I think if an artist can sell at that price, they should go for it- and he can obviously reasonably price other work, but the works that are overpriced i think are a way for him to compensate for his insecurities as an artist, but thats just my speculation and opinion.

someone mentioned this also in the comments about the lifelessness that his art has. I agree and will add that his art (at least to myself who has been surrounded by artists through out my schooling) reminds me of art you would see in a art show at a junior High school. It mostly the quality and the fact that its VERY clearly a tracing of something else.

I will also add. tracing is NOT a bad way to learn how to draw. but when you flat out copy someone else's work and passing it off as your own, not at all good.

It seems like Tyler prices his pieces based on how other more reputable artists price their own pieces. For example he might look at a painting by Stuart Semple going for $30,000, and be like ‘my painting is the same size, took the same amount of time, and is just as good’ (or even claimed his work is BETTER than Semple’s at one point) and price his the same way. Shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how fine arts are sold.

For all the criticism, I think "fixing" his art without his consent is crossing a line. I have seen so many mediocre artists come forward and acting all smug, because they thought they were better than Tyler and making fun of him. Are his prices delusional? Yes. And I think it is okay to poke a little fun at that, but I am annoyed that so many other artists used this as an opportunity for self promotion. I think artists should support other artists, instead of making themselves look better by putting someone other down.

I used to be a supporter of his before all of this and at one point wanted to buy one of his chokers...

There is plagiarism case that the photographer Jingna Zhang won on appeal, where her photograph was reproduced as a painting nearly 1:1. International courts made things difficult, but she was able to prove on appeal that change in medium does not erase the fact that her work was stolen from her (that is something the original court argued and why they appealed). The painting copy could then no longer be displayed. If it was something made to be sold like how Tyler does his paintings, (time it takes for lawsuits aside) it's very likely that the sale would be stopped as well. This is not "inspiration" and I feel like calling it "tracing" or "copying" is whitewashing the wrongdoing being committed here. There are people who'd pay for replicas even if the og artist isn't ok with it (it's either grey or dark zone, but people do do it; though, usually they're more detailed and what had you), so there's no point in hiding the truth on the basis of what he's doing, because there are people interested in buying that kind of service. I'd make a guess that he's scared. People who are open about copying others' for a living are prepared to face lawsuits (which may end being dropped due to how expensive and lengthy they are; if the replica price was low, it's not like there's be anything for the og artist to win) or even just a threat of one, as well as public scrutiny. All they can be proud of is their technical skill. And I feel like for Tyler it's just not enough. He wants praise (and to sell his crafts at higher price) for creativity he doesn't have.
