Qualicum Beach Lighthouse Country
If you've been watching our channel for a while, you'll know this is one of our favorite places. So when we had the change to head back for the weekend we couldn't resist but this time we slowed things down and spent more time exploring the area.
Lighthouse Country Regional Trail
Just a few minutes inland from the coast, there’s a trail that takes you right into the forest — and it's a much bigger forest than we expected. The Lighthouse Country Regional Trail runs between Qualicum Bay and Bowser, stretching about 4 kilometres one way through coastal forest. What makes this trail interesting is that it’s designed for more than just hiking. You can walk, run, cycle, most of the trail was designed with all abilities in mind. The southern section is wide and relatively easy to navigate, with bridges, benches, picnic areas and interpretive signs along the route. There are even fitness stations where you can stop and get a little extra exercise. As you head farther north, the trail becomes more rugged and natural, with narrower paths, roots and a completely different feel. And with the Nile Creek connection now linking the sections together, you can explore the entire route without having to turn around halfway through.
OCEANFRONT CAMPING AT ROAM BEACH RESORT
One of the biggest highlights of this trip is camping at Roam Beach Resort.
Roam Beach Resort is also a convenient starting point for exploring the Qualicum Bay and Lighthouse Country area. With hiking, the ocean, local events and recreational activities all nearby, there's plenty to keep you busy without having to turn the weekend into a marathon road trip. Lighthouse Country Fall Fair - If you’re looking for something fun to do on Vancouver Island in September, this might be worth checking out. Every year, the Lighthouse Country Fall Fair takes over Qualicum Beach for a weekend of local food, vendors, music, crafts, and good old-fashioned fair fun.
We had no idea what to expect when we arrived, but it turned out to be a pretty great way to spend part of the day—and definitely gave us a taste of fall on the Island. They also had live performances, with Fred Penner entertaining the kids during the day, and in the evening, the Completely Creedence Band took the stage for everyone to enjoy. The fair happens every Labour Day weekend and has been running for an incredible 56 years, making it a pretty special part of the local community. The vendor area was highlight, with local makers and small businesses showcasing everything from handmade crafts to locally made goods. It was a great chance to wander around, discover something different, and support some of the talented people from the area.
