I hated making decisions whether I should get "Ernest goes to the beach" and "Ernest does not go to the beach"

Picking up a pizza and bringing home a VHS rental was one of life's magnanimous treats.

These 3 work so much better than the Screensaver guys cuz these guys are actually friends

Movie companies really poured a lot of love into the VHS covers in those days. Sometimes I feel like buying VHS tapes just for the art.

My dad rented a VCR and the day we returned it he said "im buying one NOW!" Lol he was in love. Love you Dad, miss you everyday

i wish i could live in James' house and pretend I'm perpetually stuck in the 90's. sigh.... nostalgia...

The wood paneling in here really made this room incredible. New setup is crazy tho. But this definitely had its own cozy charm.

I miss working at Blockbuster, and miss it even more knowing so many other people miss going there.

This video made me sentimental for the days of going to a Video Store. My love for film came from going to Blockbuster, and discovering a Godzilla movie. It was when I rented the DVD “Godzilla: Tokyo SOS”, and saw behind the scenes of the movie, was when I knew my passion for the art of filmmaking began. I have to thank Blockbuster for my discovery of Godzilla and filmmaking as a whole.

Its 2026, I’m 19 and i still collect DVD’s/Bluerays, Music CD’s, Mangas, video games

The OG trio. I miss this Cinemassacre. I hope we can get some sort of reunion or something.

The power of nostalgia has brought back a lot of things over time, so I honestly think video stores could make a comeback someday. We have retro video game stores, so why not retro video stores? One can only hope.

Before Blockbuster came to town, there was Erol's Video. But forget about the movies - they had NES GAMES.

I remember riding in the car with fingers crossed on both hands just PRAYING that the one beautiful, shiny gold copy of a little game called The Legend Of Zelda that they had would be there waiting on the shelf. I remember the sheer euphoria of standing there with that gold cart in my hand, my parents signing it out and riding home knowing that it was going to be a good weekend.

James and Mike are correct - there is something lost in not being able to visit a physical store.

Here's to the old days. raises glass

I still have a video store, it's teamed up with Marco's Pizza which is next door. Still stays in business.

Nothing like going to Hollywood Video -- or any local video place -- and browsing the Horror VHS section. They always had the best covers and would sometimes trick you into renting a shitty movie because the cover and back looked good.

This used to be a big part of my childhood. While everything is so convenient now, nothing can beat the pleasure of going into a video store (to rent or to buy) almost every day after school and spending hours and hours looking at the boxes and reading synopsis at the back. And the feeling of being pissed off after you rented a totally shitty movie because you couldn't watch the trailer first.

Netflix is convenient but I rarely ever find something that I'd like to watch. And if you don't have internet, you can't watch it anyway.

I really wish this was recorded with a vintage RCA or Handycam. Then I would've really felt nostalgic lol.

I'm the same way, I still love buying CDs if rather have a physical copy of the cd.

That not rewinding fee on the VHS was a bitch though....

The smell. The video store smell. Loved it.
