It's fridaaaaayyy. Well, it is in Denmark at least, center of the known universe :planet-orange-purple-ring:

Ah yes, the corner of Ashford and Ashford, just a block down from the Ashford-Ashford intersection. Honestly, Ashford must be some wealthy dignitary...

Random citizen in Meridian asking friend: "Where abouts are you?"
Another random citizen: "Ashford Street."
First citizen: 😑

I'm one of those citizens who doesn't want bike lanes but instead an 18 lane road to fix all traffic issues. (American Ideology)

20:55 YES. This has been bugging me for two years!! I wish there was a mod or built-in tool that lets you determine where a road name should end, kind of like double clicking to create a node like we used to be able to. It's so silly how it creates giant looping streets

Thanks for providing hundreds of hours of entertainment

bike lanes into roundabouts is the worse idea ever
that's a quick way of how to double or triple your car accident rate irl

Might as well just rename Downtown to Ashford at this point

Kind of wish the underground subway station had an upgrade similar to the underground bike parking to simulate large subway stations that have multiple exits onto different streets or sides of the street

i love this new bike patch and yes, finally embracing your Danish roots with bicycles! I think, however, the bicycle off and on ramps are slightly unrealistic as the bikes are not high-speed vehicles. If you look at similar infrastructure in the Netherlands with bike over/underpasses, most of the ways to get on and off are just regular 90 degree intersections. maybe this is something you can implement? it has a smaller footprint too..

I wish bike ways would behave like tram tracks instead of pedestrian paths. Splitting the sidewalk, connecting better to roads and in general being more dynamic.

I'm looking forward to Road Builder getting updated and making bike lanes that work like they're supposed to.

46:36 I believe the reason the old man rode his bicycle such a long distance and then walked the rest of the way is that he probably doesn’t own a car and there are no public transport options. The combined route—cycling to the bike parking area and then walking from there to his destination—was likely still more efficient in terms of effort and “pathfinding cost” than walking the entire distance. In addition, the added convenience of designated bike parking and bike paths probably reduced the overall “pathfinding cost” even further.

12:55 you forgot to disable the right turn on the lane for left turns

I really like the way cycling was introduced into the game. It could obviously be improved, but apart from a few oddities, it fits well into the simulated world.

As with cars, the most important regulation for bicycles is parking. At home, residents can park their bikes on their own property (I haven't tried it in high-rise buildings yet), so there is no need for bike storage near their homes. But they only set off on a bike ride if there is enough storage space available at the time of the trip to suit their taste in the direction they want to go. They combine traveling well with walking, which is why strange trips occur when, after a short bike ride, they park their bikes far from their destination and walk for a long time. The same applies to the way home. If they don't find a parking space when they get there, they will circle around a bit like cars and look for another one, but next time they would "like" a lot more empty parking spaces when deciding whether to go by bike or not. So essentially the level of cycling in the city is determined by the number of bike racks near the travel destinations. If the number of potential bike racks changes, the simulation needs 2-3 days/months to adjust

That's why it's worth placing the racks near schools, workplaces, entertainment venues and shopping areas first. Then it's worth considering where they will cycle. I haven't tried a district-wide ban yet, but if you ban them on main and collector roads, but there is a parallel alternative, that works very well. Essentially, you need to develop the main road network for cycling, and then they will use it. For example, the bus lane + tram + bike path in a single road works quite well, where normal car traffic is reduced. This way, public transport and bikes can be directed to one road.

I don't like the left turn solution for bikes, on the busiest multi-lane roads, even if there is a bike lane, people turn left from the inner traffic lane. The roundabout is also strange on a multi-lane road, I hope that later there will be a "Dutch roundabout" where the bike goes around before the roundabout. In the meantime, it can be built and works, although if there is a lot of bike traffic, it will completely block car traffic on that road.

I'm curious to see where the game will develop further. I hope that with the developer's changes, we will win!

I’m excited to see how you’re planning to integrate bikes into Zeeburg!

You can use the quay wall upgrade option on the dedicated bike lanes. It creates a really cool guard rail on the side of the upgrade.

11:15 with the lane connecter mod you can get visual bike paths crossing the roads!

The main thing you seem to be missing here is that at least here in The Netherlands, we actively try to keep heavy car traffic and heavy bike traffic separate from one-another as much as possible. you're adding bike lanes to a car-heavy road, while we would prefer to add it to a car-light road. Besides that, we also artificially limited ways out of neighbourhoods for cars, while bicycles and pedestrians can cross over at every opportunity. This further incentivises cycling and walking, especially for shorter trips. It also utilizes road hierarchy to create better car traffic flow, as there are simply less conflict points (like intersections). Ah right, at one point you were trying to force a cyclist to use the cycling highway instead of going through some quiet road around some buildings... but why? As long as it doesn't get too crowded, it's great to have cyclists go through such a quiet back street.

I was always rooting for the cooler option to be implemented and you ALWAYS delivered. I'm so happy that you used so many of the bike functionalities (fave part was the dual bridge)!
PS: for how cool they look bike roundabouts are actually super dangerous IRL, could be cool to see some more overpasses and underpasses!
