I love the fact it was just a game. Trying to get one over the bookies. Gave all his winnings to charity. What a legend. I never get tired of the Yellow Sam story. Amazing
Never knew about his charity work I’ve been backing horses since I was 15 which just happens to be 1975 when Barney changed his life forever and I’ve always known about Yellow Sam never knew Willie Mullins rode the fav mind but a great documentary really enjoyed it
Wow this is one of the most interesting documentaries I’ve watched! What a fella Barney was knew nothing of him before watching this! Not a horse racing fan! Just stumbled across this! So glad I watched it! And total respect for the guy what he achieved in Africa
A very interesting story. The days before parimutual wagering were like the wild west. He was lined up for a kill and pulled it off .im a lover and student of the game. Part time small player. This was high stakes big time gambling. Too stressful for a guy like me .i appreciate the mans courage
Great stuff is this. Giving to underprivileged people and being at odds with the establishment was the measure of Barney Curley. Rebel and saviour and sone story indeed.
Barney was a hero to us mug punters. I was at Pontefract races in the top bar in the Paddock October 1994 with my 6 year old son and a few mates. Barney had entered Palacegate Jack in a race but as he usually did in those days hadn't declared a jockey. Somebody told us Lester Piggott was going to ride it so we shot out to the ring and took 15/8 just before jockey change announced. Bookies wiped the boards and its new price was 2/5. It sluiced in and thanks for the memories Barney RIP
