So now you know why everyone goes nuts. It's Redford and Newman, but the supporting cast is off the charts. "Ya fahllah?"

Luther was played by Robert Earl Jones, father of James Earl Jones.

The Guy with Straw Hat finally gets the Sundance Kid, nice one.

Considering the cast, the plot, and the incredible period work, IMO this is one of the very best movies ever made. Plus, everyone loves a revenge story.

"Try not to live up to all my expectations." 😂
My favorite line from my all-time favorite movie.

Probably one of the BEST buddy movies ever made. Maybe THE best! The excellent chemistry between Newman and Redford is legendary. It's ony a shame it was only two films. May they both R.I.P.

Everyone always giggles here, but in this context, "dick" is Prohibition-era slang for "detective." You'll hear it in lots of films made or set in the 1930s-1940s (private dick, hotel dick, etc.).

The grandaddy of all heist movies is probably 'Riffifi'

This movie has the best screenplay ever for me. By far. A MASTERPIECE.

Fantastic flick. Great music. Solace is one of my favorite songs.

Yes Paul and Robert were great friends in real life and loved to play practical jokes on each other!!

A early Paul Newman classic, The Hustler(1961,) would be a good watch.

Robert Redford got his only Oscar nomination for acting from this movie. He never saw the movie until 2006.

Charles Dierkop, the actor playing Floyd, Lonnegan's henchman, was also in Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. He played Flat Nose Curry, one of Butch's gang.

Another unusual "heist movie" is Kelly's Heroes (1970) with Clint Eastwood.

This movie was single-handedly responsible for the revival of the popularity of "The Entertainer" and other ragtime music by Scott Joplin. He'd gone entirely out of fashion, but now he's never lost popularity because of this movie.

Robert Shaw had an accident just before filming started. He offered the withdrawal but he was retained to play the role. In the event the limp gave the role an air of authenticity.
