Kids now are not the same as us older ones, airfix would not stand a chance now as a new invention just because kids want internet. Cars used to come with instructions of almost how to take a full engine out and rebuild it, now you get instructions telling you not to drink the battery acid, WE ARE NOT THE SAME.

Meccano, he started the business with a £5 loan! I couldn't even buy a sausage and chips for that today.

That was a complete trip through my childhood. Made me the man I am today.

Children used to have fun.

My parents collected green shield stamps 😊

The crystal radio did need power, it came from the actual transmission, hence requiring an extremely long aerial. I have the insulator from one still hanging from my chimney stack on my 105 year old house.

I started collecting stamps around 1955, and acquired new ones the same way everyone did back then: soaked them off letters, foreign ones if you were lucky enough for your parents to have correspondents overseas, or threepenny and sixpenny packets from Woolworth's. All these years later I still collect stamps and now own stamps I could only dream of when I was a 7 or 8 year old thumbing through a Stanley Gibbons catalogue. So, today, even though there are fewer and fewer collectors and fewer and fewer people actually using stamps, the hobby is still quite viable,

I remember my first Airfix models I got for Christmas, it was a 3 plane set. The first was a Spitfire, I assembled it carefully, painted it and applied the transfers. The 2nd, a German Messerschmitt I just kind of stuck together and messed up with the transfers.
The 3rd, I forget what it was, I just sniffed the glue. Yes, Airfix made me the man I am today 🤪

I remember, back in the 60's, painting ourselves purple using the potassium permanginate mixed in water.
It took days for it to wear off.
Chemistry sets were brilliant.

It was fantastic getting the Beano and Shoot mags through the post each week as a 70’s kid 😊

Only 80 odd years ago, 18, 19, 20 year old young men used to fly bombers over Germany (in a war based on a lie), now young men don't want to work and want to be girls. What have we become? Can you imagine your teenager doing that? OMG, to me, they are still children. Times have changed.

Good memories of marbles, yo-yos, electric trains, meccano, and other things from the late 40s in California. The theme repeated about how much we learned is so real, and so missing today. Now the key place for skills are tool and die makers, and industrial engineers designing the factories run by robots.

Pity the words are by AI because the content is good. I still have a scar on my left forefinger from the time over 70 years ago when I sliced into it when carving an arrow for my home-made bow. I didn't do all these things (skateboards arrived after I was married) but certainly a lot of them. As an 86 year old I even still build model aeroplanes and I only gave up cycling recently after may 1000s of miles all over the world. I proposed to my wife in the glow of the safe-light in my darkroom 60 years ago :)

I ended up as an electronics/computer engineer so perhaps some of it rubbed off on me.
