I feel like it’s necessary because I don’t think I clarified enough in the video itself. This is a philosophical/conceptual take using the history of the words ‘angel’ and ‘demon’ + the games’ themes. I’m not saying literal angels exist in the canon or that the writers intended this. I’m just saying if you wanted to look at it this way you can, because I’ve seen a lot of videos on the subject and wanted to share one way you could interpret it. THANKS AGAIN!!

If angels akin to the more popular concept do exist in DMC, my headcanon is that their absence is due to Sparda. Not because he’s busy fighting them or he killed all of them, but since Sparda separated the Human and Demon Worlds, the role of Angels as guardians of man at war with demons simply isn’t necessary anymore. And any demons that do show up stirring trouble have to either deal with Sparda or his boys.

Basically: if an Angel shows up in DMC something has or is about to go HORRIFICALLY WRONG.

In my opinion . Angels in dmc are just demons that see themselves as angels . Since demons seem to materialise their personality and ideas into their own appearances . Same way that dante's dt is red with actual wings . And vergil's is blue with a tail and jet like wings (in dmc5)

meh my headcanon is angels do exist theyre just busy hunting bayonetta and jean. especially if i remember correctly kamiya himself said bayo and dante are in the same world or its heavily implied.

Here are my two cents on the subject:
I think angels and the divine is a real and present force in the Devil May Cry universe but it's completely immaterial, not physical. That's why demons are hurt by holy water and why, since the very first game in the series, whenever we see an angel or angelic figure physically appearing, we know something is clearly wrong.
Even though that may not have been Kamiya's intention, the existence of the divine in purely immaterial form (such as holiness in water or divinity statues bringing out what's inside Dante) would make the divine a perfect and complete opposite to the demonic, which instead exists phisically and constantly tries to force itself into the real world.
The divine is immaterial, it's internal, while evil is external as seen in Dante, who has the body of a demon but the immaterial "heart" of a human. This can also be seen in Nero's character as a whole and his association with angels. Nero already sees himself as nothing but a devil because of how his arm phisically morphed, but it is Nero's heart and the goodness present in it, the divine, that makes it clear to his loved ones that, because of how he dealt with the ordeals imposed to him by his physical body, he is the opposite of a demon in their eyes, and what would the opposite of a demon be if not an angel? The divinity of the goodness in Nero's heart is phisically expressed by his demonic powers when he embraces his desire to do the right thing one final time at the end of DMC5.

Single best Dante character analysis I have ever seen.

special mention to Lucia's devil trigger from dmc2 since that also looks very angelic

This is one of the few videos that seem to acknowledge the angelic themes in dmc, and i enjoted it thoroughly

"The orders Bianco Angelos and Alto Angelos... are made from something and we don't know what that is"

The Angelos are designed from parts of Nelo Angelo's Armor.

Hmm... that's a really unique way to look at the concept of angels within Devil May Cry

Very much Notice Sparda family Takes Inspiration or parts of their father/Idol figures In DT not just Credo form inspiring Nero's form but also Dante and Vergil which take some parts from there father pretty sure there is a image that shows parts they use

Spectacular breakdown, I love when people take the time to study the theological aspects of games like these. Vergil is by far my favorite character in the franchise, both for active character development and pure cool points, his character arc in particular from 3 all the way to 5 is just phenomenal.

Im not really into japanese folklore but seeing as hideaki itsuno and kamiya are both japanese, i think their view of "demons" is more closer to japanese demon folklore and not mostly christian. I like to compare it to demon slayer, in that anime theres no Gods or angels in the show and i yhink its the same for dmc, since both creators are japanese

Very good analysis of the themes and ideas in DMC games. And this shows, contrary to a lot of people's beliefs, that DMC story is a lot deeper than what seems on the surface. Anyways, really enjoyed it and look forward to see more!

“It is said that they once were in heaven” is honestly enough for me to think that there’s natural angels as well. They just don’t appear the same way that demons would. All head canon at this point lol, but awesome vid bro

bumping for nice takes

Had thought about stuff like this myself!! Typically chalked it up to me over thinking, but you've earned a sub and Im sticking around for Vergil and Nero videos promised in this one.

This also lines up nicely with DMC's sister series, Bayonetta.

In that game, the enemies are called "angels" and are supposedly "holy", but they are shown to be an embodiment of evil, just like demons in DMC, while Bayonetta, a witch, an occupation/title closely associated with evil and sin, is the hero who slays these "angels".

The only difference is that Bayonetta actually DOES have angels and demons as a seperate race, but that's kinda lame, and I like this better.

This was a great look at Dante and the concept of angels in the series. Very well researched, from the manga to the creator/new director's intent, and the part with the lyrics was very informative. Thank you and keep it up.

THIS IS WAY DEEPER THAN I THOUGHT
