1975 PG is a completely different creature than 2025 PG

I always felt that Quint's trauma and survivors guilt contributed to his irrational and reckless behaviour,  culminating in him rejoining his lost shipmates by dying in the same manner.

When this movie came out, what happened to the Indianapolis, had JUST been declassified.  A mother of one of the sailors thanked Spielberg and Shaw, because before she'd seen this movie, she didn't know how her son had died.  (She didn't know it had finally been declassified.)

I think why the movie still works is because its a slow burn, but its still not boring.
Something always happens or we are waiting for it to happen.
Its a masterclass of pacing.

Craziest thing is that the Mayor is still the Mayor in Jaws 2

One of the best monologues of any movie ever is Quint talking about The USS Indianapolis.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat." was an ad-lib from Scheider. I daresay it's the most parodied line from the whole movie.

The little boy wasnt asking for coffee. His mom said, "What about ice cream"? And he answered "Coffee", meaning he wanted Coffee flavored ice cream.

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."  This sentence is stil famous today.

They have a talent for talking through the most important parts.

I wasn't attacked, but the shark did not have good intentions. I was 13 in '91 and spear fishing with a Hawaiian sling off Bimini, a small Bahamian island, with my uncle and cousin. The boat, driven by my cousin, would pull my uncle and me behind it over the reef in about 30 feet of water. We had just speared a big grouper in its hole, and there was a lot of blood in the water. We got the fish to the boat, and I looked down to see an 8-foot tiger shark swimming through the blood cloud. My uncle said not to worry about it, and we kept trolling. I looked behind me, and the shark was still on the sea floor but following us. My uncle said it was just curious, so we kept trolling. I looked back again, and the shark was off the sea floor about 15 feet and still following. It was at that point I noticed slack in my tow line as the boat was no longer pulling me. I looked up, and my uncle was in the boat yelling, "Get out of the water!" Man, I flew into that boat like a seal at SeaWorld. I cussed my uncle out.

Its awesome that this now 50 year old movie can still amaze and entertain XD

Bad news for you guys, the bull shark which is one of the most aggressive sharks can live in freshwater. They have been caught 1700 miles up in Mississippi.

“Is that Ben Franklin?” Y’all didn’t even flinch when Ben Gardner appeared. 😂💪🏾

Fun fact: Shark's eyes are not actually black "like dolls' eyes." Great White sharks actually have a really vivid ice blue iris and a regular white sclera like we do. Their pupils are large and their eye holes are small and recessed into their head for protection. So it's almost impossible to see their iris unless you observe from an angle close to their side. Which, understandably, is not often done 😅

7:34 as a girl that was a "tomboy" in the 70's I got hurt all the time and was told I'd be fine too. Slap a bandaid and some iodine on it and go back out to play. That was most kids I knew. Our parents wanted us outside and just be home for dinner. Our playgrounds were rusty, metal Saw traps

He wanted coffee ice cream. Really popular in the 70s.

Robert Shaw (Quint) was an Oscar-nominated actor, novelist and playwright. He played a Bond henchman in “From Russia With Love,” and the main villain in “The Sting.” He died of a heart attack at about 52, but he had quite a life before he died.

Fun story: The actress of the Morning Mother stopped in a random seafood restaurant. On the menu was a reference to her movie son getting eaten. She ordered it telling the waitress that she played the boys mother in Jaws. A little while later the chef/owner comes out to talk to her. It turns out to be the actor who played her son. They have a family reunion.

I read about the Indianapolis. The men were in the salt water so long, most of their body hair dissolved. They were so cold, men would yell they were about to piss so others could gather around for the warmth in the water. Many were hallucinating by the time a pilot spotted them. He said the water was so clear, he could see ring after ring of circling sharks around the groups of men. You’re never supposed to land a boat plane in deep water because they’ll flip. The pilot didn’t care, he wanted to help as many as he could while they waited for rescue ships. The boat plane flipped as it tried to land, and the pilot and his crew swam out and got on top of the plane’s wings. They started shouting for the men to swim over, but they were hallucinating so much, nobody came. So one of the men standing on a wing yelled, “Happy hour! Conga!” And started dancing and singing the conga song, encouraging the men in the water to form a conga line and “dance” to the plane. It worked.
