33:38 still not over that one episode they had paige caleb toby standing with their ex-high school teacher ezra fitz in christmas themed underwear. never forget
What bothers me is how the liars never fully forgiven Mona for being A and starting the whole domino effect of it all (which they’re valid for not forgiving her) but forgives Ali for all the shit she put them through and remains best friends with her when she’s the reason why this whole mess started in the first place!
TO this day it still keeps me up at night that Marlene had the opportunity to write such an powerful story about grooming and unhealthy power dynamics in relationships with the Ezra is A twist only to throw it away for not one but two convoluted secret sibling reveals that fell flatter than some of the hair departments wigs 😭😭
a big part of loving PPL is also low-key hating it even if it's just for the waisted pottential. This could've been a teenage silly version of Twin Peaks but had to ruin it lol
They should’ve just introduced Courtney as the one who returned as Alison to explain the plot holes and personality change, then reveal that A.D. is just Courtney pretending to be Alison
It's crazy to think Sasha Pieterse was about a decade younger than the other girls but had this dominating presence over all of them. She was about 14 in the first season.
I really feel like bringing her back destroyed the show. They should have kept her as the ruthless vindictive person she was rather than making her the biggest coward
Since everyone is giving their 2 cents, I feel like one of the biggest downfalls and missed opportunities was killing off Maya. The girl was very intelligent. From the little scenes and dialogue we got from her, she showed a lot of insight, self-awareness, and awareness of her surroundings through observation alone.
She was able to give a perfect description of Allison as the popular girl and explain her dynamic with her friend group as girls who followed the leader and rarely challenged her unless they got burned or were left behind. She figured all of that out just from looking at pictures hanging in Emily's room, which I thought was pretty cool. 😎
Seriously, they could have used her observations and insightfulness to help discover secrets alongside the other girls. I could see her uncovering an important mystery that only she could figure out something that would completely change the game against A and even Allison.
She would have been a great addition to the group and a strong protagonist and rival to Allison. I think she was smart and strong enough to challenge her. What also made Maya different is that, unlike the other girls, she had no attachment to Allison and no past memories influencing her judgment. If she had to call Allison out on her behavior and hold her accountable, it would have been much easier, fair, and reasonable.
Honestly, I feel like the girls gave Allison way too much grace and rarely held her accountable for the way she treated other people when she was bullying them.
Especially when you compare it to how she treated Mona Vanderwaal, Lucas Gottesman, and Paige McCullers. Those three weren't part of her group, but they experienced a lot of harassment and bullying from Allison firsthand. In my opinion, they saw her worst side more than the girls in her friend group ever did.
Honestly, I could see Maya working really well with Aria, Hanna, and Mona. It's a shame they killed her off and never really used her character. She was insightful, observant, self-aware, charismatic, and beautiful. She had so much potential, and I honestly think the show missed out on what could have been a great character. What a shame.
Pretty little liars walked so Riverdale could run. Both shows got away with plot holes and bad writing cuz they both had teenage fan bases that loved the characters and actors. Including me, I was in high school when PLL was airing and I was rooting for Ezra and Aria 🤦♀️
I don’t think the start of the downfall was bringing Alison back to life but the way they changed her character and maybe even the dynamics. To me the downfall was the writers playing into ships instead of the plot and straying so far away from the books just to have a “gotcha” moment to the fans because they were theorizing and guessing where the story was going, that’s how we ended up with the bs Spencer twin thing
It wouldn't have solved everything but I genuinely believe Courtney (Alison's twin from the books) would've helped the plot be more coherent, not to mention how devastating it would've been for the Liars to find out in season 5 that the Ali they just got back isn't the Ali they lost that night, and how interesting it would've been to see the returned Ali pretend to be the same Ali who disappeared that night
I think the reason why the books weren’t a huge hit compared to the show is because most people don’t like to read. Which is crazy because most books are better than tv show.
