Man,  Max was so erudite and brilliant. It's no wonder he played like that.

I love listening to Max Roach discuss America and to express optimism and hope. I am optimistic and hopeful for America also. My favorite Max Roach album is "Deeds, Not Words," recorded in 1958 with Booker Little on trumpet, George Coleman on tenor sax, Ray Draper on tuba and Art Davis on bass.

Amen

Love this. I once heard the late Paul Motian put his bands together like a pot of stew—different ingredients, one pot.

“We can all live together as human beings and still be different.”
Beautiful.

Diversity + the awareness of how deep those differences run + still being tolerant… Feels like that’s jazz in a nutshell.
