Why are people online whitewashing Black-coded cartoon characters... again...

In this video, I talk about the whitewashing of Steven Universe characters, lowkey homophobia surrounding it, and similar conversations involving The Backyardigans and The Amazing World of Gumball. We’re looking at Black-coded characters, fandom culture, LGBTQ+ representation, "fan art", ai slop, and how race gets erased in cartoon redesigns.

3:43 That’s literally just Mario and peach cause wtf. Taking sapphire out of her suit and ruby out of her dress is deranged. Also why are Steven’s eyes blue?

4:09 the worst part about them using this excuse is, if the gems exist outside of biological sex and traditional human gender, they could be considered nonbinary. And if they're nonbinary, they're still sapphic, lesbian even.

Bro, really????? Goddamn not even childhood media is safe from this shit?

As a woman bro I get it I’d watch superhero shows with my brother and there’d be like one honorary girl super hero just for the show to sideline her make her a love interest and dumb down her abilities. Good rep matters and when someone takes that stuff away 💀 we’re throwing hands bro let me have this.

Bro, that wedding one isn't white washing! It's a crossover. Mario and Princess Peach just asked Steven to officiate their wedding, that's all. It's not racist. X D

the wedding one is hillarously stupid. Because the reasonRuby was the one in the dress is because when stations were airing ruby and saphire eps in some contruies they would add a stupid little mustach to ruby so it wouldn't look gay. Come the wedding the crew wanted to make that impossible to drive home the fact that its gay as hell so Ruby wore the dress so they couldn't just slap a mustach on her this time
