Ever wonder why the settlers in Fallout 4's Commonwealth live in rickety old shacks filled with garbage and skeletons? Of course you have! I've read your Reddit posts!

Let's go in-universe to find out why.

Thank you to my subscribers and fellow Fallout content creators. I tried for a bit more of a video essay vibe on this one, let me know if you like it!

At the bare minimum you'd think that they would throw the corpses outside.

It's raining so I can't patch the hole in my roof. It's sunny so I don't need to patch the hole in my roof.

Shameful that the people of Megaton lived better, and they had an undetonated nuke as their town center.

"God it sucks living in absolute squalor and being exposed to the elements, but we have to.

For the aesthetic."

Nothing like sleeping two feet away from the scorched bones of a family who died in abject terror 200 years ago. 😅

When a corpse decays, the ligaments also decay, and the skeleton falls apart. It doesn't stay together like the one in your 8th grade biology class.

The biggest tragedy of the nuclear war was the loss of knowledge about how brooms work

The actual answer is they're from boston.

What takes me out is that it gets COLD in Boston in the autumn and winter, and not just snow cold but wet cold. Getting soaked can be a death sentence when it's 34° f; people would absolutely patch roofs enough to keep rain out.

Also one decent noreaster would totally destroy damn near everything touching water given how ramshackle the structures are.

It always surprises me when I find a pile of rubble under an intact roof.

My main issue is why YOU AS THE PLAYER can't build nicer buildings. Basically every building material except concrete has holes and generally looks like crap

@bingusbadingus9486 5 months ago

I actually have slipped on a banana peel. It was 2025 in a Walmart parking lot. I will never forget how hilarious it was actually doing something that you only see in old movies and cartoons.

Todd probably lives with a real skeleton and thinks its normal to live like this.

@Noobtroller5000 6 months ago

this ignores how many NPC's that tell the player that their family has lived in the places for several generations like finch farm and Abernathy farm and both locations the buildings are run down

There is a mod called hunkered down settlements and all places lived in by all humans such as raiders, stores, settlements and other places are made to look liveable
