Elements of a Still Life, Part Two

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!

Painting Elements in a Still Life and more—this is Part Two! You may recall in Part One, I worked on a very simple still life painting using only a few elements. They were arranged in such a way to illustrate a moment in time. The moment was strong and memorable, like light rays on a flower vase. These elements were used to tell a story.

This BobBlast, Part Two, carries on by adding more elements in your still life painting. What kind of elements, you may ask?

Here is a list of the ones I like using:
•Table
•Tablecloths (patterns are a nice touch)
•Windows and doorways (light source)
•Curtains (blowing in the breeze perhaps?)
•Mirrors (makes the room seem bigger)
•Chairs

Then, on the table you may have…
•Vase of flowers
•Wine bottle
•Glasses
•Fruit and other food
•Bowls, Plates
•Napkins

These elements used in building your still life painting are everyday items that you, the artist and your viewers can easily identify with. You are telling your story… a moment in time, a lifestyle.

The sky is the limit when it comes to creating your still life… wacky perspective, light reflections on walls, patterned tablecloths. Once I start working with patterns, like a checkered tablecloth—I will repeat that pattern in a mirror.
