What is ham radio and why are people still drawn to it? Amateur radio is much more than talking into a microphone. It’s a licensed hobby that can involve contacting people around the world, communicating through satellites, building antennas, experimenting with digital modes, and staying connected when everyday communications aren’t available.
I’m David KJ5EXE, and in this video I share what ham radio is, how I found my way into it through shortwave listening and hurricane preparedness, and why there’s always something new to learn. Whether you’re interested in electronics, computers, camping, emergency preparedness, or simply making your first radio contact, there may be a part of ham radio for you.
If you’re already a ham, introduce someone new to the hobby. If you’re curious, find a local club, talk with a ham, and consider working toward your Technician license.
