Welcome, fellow enthusiasts and radio-curious alike!  it's been a long while since my last installment...in 2020.  Hope you enjoy!

Very good intro for someone who is new to this.

Again we repeat: THANK YOU VERY MUCH , DEAR TOM 🤩

I'm 72 and grew up 10 miles west of Boston. WBZ is often heard in 38 states, a real sky burner. It's also the only PEP station in New England. My first DX catch was in 1970 on a Philco solid state radio, WWVA in W. Virginia. I now have several long distance MW receivers, a GE Superadio III, a CCrane EP Pro and the Qodosen DX 286. I'll sometimes sit outside with the Tecsun AN 200 loop for boost.
Great video! There are a lot of young folks who haven't tried this hobby yet. I tell most of them to try it, as all it takes is a $10.00 pocket portable and some patience. Thanks!

Medium Wave is real fun. Stations are far enough to give you goose bumps.

I like listening to MW while driving my truck at night. You can pick up quite a few distant signals depending on where you are, and of course reception can change rapidly as you cruise down a highway.

Medium Wave Circle (RDMW-2024) is a game changer. Thank you!

I remember at night being fascinated by the fact that I could tune in WLS in Chicago over 500 miles from where I grew up.
Great video Tom.  I'm looking forward to the home antenna episodes.  So much noise in a house these days

The first DX station I remember hearing was WLW Cincinnati on a small transistor radio 📻

Thank you for the explanation of wave travel, day versus night.
I enjoyed searching the mw dial at night in the 60s.  Perhaps I will do it again just to see if I can recreate that same joy as an old(er) man😊

As a police officer in Kansas City in 1970 and for the next several years attending the university working the midnight shift, I would tune in stations in Little Rock, Chicago, Oklahoma City, and I especially enjoyed KMOX from 3 AM on to about 5 AM where the disc jockey would read the latest edition of the St. Louis Post dispatch. I grew up on a farm in Central Illinois and always went to sleep with a transistor radio at Meir listening to WLS in Chicago with Dick Biondi what a treat. I was a big a.m. listener in the day. My question is with the advent of the Internet. All of these stations are available and we are not tied to listening to just the radio. Is there an attraction listening to the AM band these days?

Good stuff Tom.  These are things I knew but probably couldn’t articulate as well as you did here. Your excellent explanation helps to clarify my thinking and tidy my approach to this body of information. Thinking this through as you explain it is a good use of my brain. Thank you

When I graduated from elementary school in 1961 I was given a Motorola 6 transistor radio. I lived in Chicago. I was amazed had how much I could hear on the eastern half of the US. The Rocky Mountains were a real wall. The one thing I enjoyed was collecting QSL cards from the stations. Back then if you sent a postcard to WXYZ in Atlanta the post office would deliver it. I farthest I ever reached was a religious station PJB at 800khz broadcasting from Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles at 500kw. I collect and restore old Zenith transistor radios from the sixties. Radios I drooled over but couldn't afford. The BIG problem now is electronic RF noise. Light dimmers, LED lightbulbs, electronics, etc. A lot of hash and buzzing. I have to turn off every light in the house if I want to listen to one of my radios at night.

thank you kindly, been getting into shortwave and mediumwave recently! i've been following your channel since a while ago, keep making more <3

Thanks for this topic !

I remember in the late 60’s sitting on the beach in Panama City Beach Florida after midnight and listening to KAAY aka the mighty 1090 from my home state Arkansas. Especially Beaker Street by Clyde Clifford.

Really clear explanation. Thank you.

I can pick up CKLW 800khz from Windsor, Ontario here in Staten Island NYC on most nights. I'm using a Tecsun PL-330.

Former ham of 30 years, and how I became interested in Radio too.  I haven’t done DXing in a while but from another video on here implied the Clear Channels were no longer protected.   I had a cheap am fm headset as recently as around 2011 was working 3rd shift as an auditor in an electronics manufacturing plant, which was brick with a metal roof , to my surprise, the FM really did not come in except for a close station, though the AM came in from around the country, unless I was standing in very close proximity to a automated machine.

1970s and 1980s GE clock radios are great for DX ing.

Just checking in again. I got my start the same way. We had a "Tree house" only 5 feet in the air - lol. Back in the 70's, I would sleep out there with my buddies in summer and listen to AM radio. Wow! I was hooked.  It's nice to see your new revival of this great channel.  I appreciate everything your doing Tom!
