From London Legacy to Reverse Migration: A Teacher Comes Home to Jamaica

A Life Elsewhere

He had the career, the house, the money, the life.
But something was missing.
So he left London, tested life in Gambia, built an online teaching business,
and moved to Kingston to find what success never gave him: happiness.

Marcus is a British Jamaican teacher who spent his entire life
knowing he wanted to live in Jamaica.
Not as a retiree. Not someday. Now.
While he still had time to actually enjoy it.

He grew up in North London in a household where Jamaica wasn't taught,
it was lived. Sunday rice and peas. Weekly phone calls to Kingston.
Stories about Nelson Road that didn't make sense until years later
when he finally saw it with his own eyes.

But even with all that love for Jamaica, he did what he was supposed to do.
Got his degree. Became a teacher. Bought a flat. Built a career.
Ticked all the boxes. And realized he was miserable.

So he left. First to South Korea. Then to Gambia.
Testing whether he could be happy somewhere else, anywhere else.
And every time, the answer was the same: Jamaica.

Now he lives in Kingston, teaches online to UK students from 6am,
finishes work by midday, and spends his afternoons at the beach,
at Hope Gardens, or eating fried fish downtown at the pier.

But this conversation isn't just about moving to Jamaica.
It's about what happens when you realize the life you built
isn't the life that makes you happy.
It's about rejecting the 9 to 5. Choosing peace over productivity.
And refusing to wait until retirement to live the life you actually want.

⚠️ REAL TALK:
This episode will challenge everything you think about success.

It's about what happens when you realize the career, the flat,
the salary, the social life isn't enough.
It's about choosing happiness over money.
Peace over productivity. Home over opportunity.

Whether you've ever felt like you're living someone else's dream,
questioned whether the place you live actually makes you happy,
or wondered what it would take to just walk away and start over —
this conversation will make you think twice about what you're working toward.
