I return to The Alpinist a couple times a year, honestly. While it's extremely sad, there is this underlying comfort knowing that someone in the world spent their precious moments doing EXACTLY what they wanted to be doing.

From what I saw of Marc in The Alpinist, soloing in wild places made him feel free. So, rather than being focused on the increased risks associated with soloing in such a remote area at that time of year, he saw the situation as an increase in freedom.

These guys are on a whole different level of how they see the world, & life. So calm in the face of potential annihilation. Such confidence in what they do but yet such humble dudes. Like a couple of stoners casually going over death defying feats. Awesome.

I’m still incredibly moved every time I see clips from “The Alpinist”…one of the greatest documentaries I have ever seen. Marc-Andre’s life was an inspiring and instructive lesson to us all. It takes real courage not necessarily to climb rocks or defy death, but to live out your dream every day. And if you can overcome those fears and actually do it, the reward for doing so is priceless and lasts forever — well beyond our short time here on Earth.

When he mentioned turning off the headlamp just to avoid staring at the flake anchor... that broke me..thats so fucked ahaha. What an epic tale. Thanks for sharing and thanks alex for having the platform where people can share these stories. Marc Andre Leclerc was such a character from what I have seen and so much respect for his passion and energy.

I'm really happy to see all this love for MA. I had the privilege of hanging out with him a good handful of times. My wifes father is actually married to Marc Andres mom. I didn't get much time with him, but I could see the absolute love for the mountains and climbing culture inside him.

Great interview with Austin!!!.........answered many questions I've long had regarding how they captured the tight shots of Marc Andre's solo of Torre Egger......I am also curious to know how they got the tight shots of Marc Andre during his solo of Robson's Emperor Face and the opening sequence on Mt Slesse in the Fraser Valley?? Did they use a similar method? Anyway, really enjoyable watch - thanks guys!!!
