Join us on our first visit to Texada Island, BC, where we spend three nights camping in a tent at Shelter Point Campground and explore some of the island’s fascinating history and beautiful coastal spots.
We start our Texada Island adventure at Shelter Point Campground, where we check out the campsites, amenities and everything this campground has to offer. We also discover one of the best parts of camping here—the Shelter Point Concession, where we enjoy some great food without having to cook it ourselves!
From there, we head out to explore Van Anda, learning about the story of an old shipwreck from the early 1900s.
Texada Island has a fascinating history that goes back more than 100 years, with mining playing a major role in the island’s development. We take a look at some of that history and talk about the people and industries that helped shape Texada.
We also visit Shingle Beach Recreation Site, where we explore the area and talk about the Diversity Festival that used to take place there.
If you enjoy camping, exploring BC, small communities, local history and discovering places that are a little off the beaten path, come along with us as we explore Texada Island for the first time!

I'll add in some train facts (of course):
Cornell Mines Railway: A two-kilometer rail line ran from Emily Lake to the Van Anda dock. Parts of this historic rail bed can still be hiked today near Van Anda.
Marble Bay Tramway: A tramway connected Marble Bay to Sturt Bay.
Blubber Bay Operations: By 1951, BC Cement built roughly three to five miles of track from the quarry to the crushing plant and wharf, operating up to five locomotives before rails were removed in 1953.
Texada Mines Underground Network: In the 1950s, the iron mine used an extensive underground rail network powered by five battery locomotives until it was replaced by trackless ore carriers in 1968.
Looking forward to your next video. Love you guys! -from Andrej
