I just finished teaching a unit on evolution to a bunch of high schoolers and I am happy to report that not once did any of them attempt to bring forth any YEC talking points

I loved my High School biology teacher in Alabama. She started the class with a statement I’ll paraphrase badly “Much of this class is about evolution, because modern biology is based on evolution, this isn’t a debate class. You can agree or disagree, but you are responsible for learning the material. You will not disrupt this class with contentious arguments. This class doesn’t reflect my personal beliefs which are none of your business. Should you still find yourself unable to control yourself due to personal objections then I suggest you go to the office and drop the class. In any case you will not take this opportunity from the students who came prepared to learn and this is the last time this will be discussed.”
Within two months four students dropped or were removed, and that was in 1975. The teacher was Mrs Gallow and at one point she won a National award as best science teacher in the country.

If he doesn't like how we don't have a 100% fossil of Lucy, he's really not going to like when he finds out we don't have an original copies of the Bible, either. That's consistency, right?

It's amazing how easy it is to win a debate when you write both side of the argument.

I love how they portray these supposed high schoolers as people who have two-sentence questions that completely uproot the foundations of science and evolution.

Like yes, Clarence, you're the first person to ever ask these questions, no one has ever thought about that before, and no one has ever had the answer. You solved it. In less than a class session. You damn genius, you.

Creationists can only win arguments when they are writing the script for the scientist.

My parents were super religious. When I was a kid, I would question all of their religious teachings. The crazy thing was, they were completely stunned when I would question the Bible. It was so foreign to them. They couldn’t comprehend how someone could question their religion. They had no idea how to handle it. Eventually, they just told me that they couldn’t explain why science refuted the bible. To their credit, they encouraged me to look further into it. I think, in their mind, I would find out that science was wrong and the bible was true. That’s not what happened. I would share what I learned with them. It did nothing to change their minds but they never really tried to talk me out of what I believed ( at least after I was in my teens). I broke their hearts when I told them that I was an atheist but they never stopped loving me and being there for me. I guess I was pretty fortunate. I’ve heard a whole lot of horror stories about xtian parents with their atheist kids.

Picture a classroom. They're having a guest lecturer come to teach them about human evolution. Clarence is all pumped up, he's memorized all the Genesis Apologetics talking points. He's ready to demolish this "evolutionist".
Suddenly the sky darkens, thunder rumbles in the distance and boss music starts playing.
Erica walks into the classroom.

As soon as the teacher said Darwin's finches proved evolution, we know this is another creationist strawman set up so the super smart creationist kid can knock it down.

"Clarence read the gods damned text book or ask your questions after class. the rest of us have too much shit to do to wait on you to catch up on 150 years of progress."

For the past too many years I have taught Human Evolution at a University in Canada. I have had only a handful of defiant believers (largely due to the course being an elective), and most just want to be assured that they can follow the science and still believe in God. I tell them that it will not make a difference to their grade, but if they wish to press further, I'm also up to speed in philosophy, biblical exegesis, and the history of religion. So, within my pay grade.

I was prepping a lecture one day on the subway, when the woman next to me noticed the text. "Oh," she said, "Evolution. I don't believe in that." "Well, do you believe in birth defects?" "Yes," she replied. "Do you believe that sometimes those birth defects are fatal?" Yes. "And sometimes they produce something useful, like, oh, superior eyesight?" Oh, yes. "Ah. Well, that's evolution, so I'm not clear what you don't believe."  She sat for a few stops, then turned to me and asked, "So what is DNA and how does it work?"

Point to the old, bald guy.

I wonder if this whole "student stands up to the teacher trope" is just a weird power fantasy or if more insidiously they're hoping students will copy it to try to get their message into places it doesn't belong.

Ah, I miss my high school biologist. He brought up the whole young earth “controversy” jokingly. Showed a few memes of one woman repeatedly saying “But where is the evidence?” to a scientist offering to take her to museums and show the evidence. But what I really appreciated about him was that I could talk to him about the evolution of flight and wings. He told me a lot about the scientific theory for how flight evolved (multiple times) and it was really fascinating.

I was raised to believe in creationism and knew nothing of evolution until my first semester in college. The theory of evolution made a lot of sense but I didn’t want to accept it as I knew it wasn’t compatible with my worldview and I did a lot of research outside of class, including watching debates on evolution. Ultimately it was people like Ken Ham that helped me to realize evolution was a fact and creationism didn’t have a leg to stand on. Keep up the good work.

And then everybody clapped and the teacher said "thank you for telling the truth, Im so sick of having to lie", and the whole class got up and walked out and we prayed in the parking lot.

By the end of the semester Clarence would've been a prime example of an organism with a skeleton that seems to be "Exclusively bipedal" when in reality it belonged to a man who's been mainly crawling on the floor on all 4s with a leash on his neck cuz he's been absolutely owned.

2:30 “Brevity is not a strong suit of mine.” 🤣😂 So very true, Erika, but that’s one reason we love you!

Trying to argue in good faith with people arguing in bad faith is a doomed enterprise from the start.

Creationists wining shower arguments again.
If I was his shampoo bottle, I'd still cringe.

"Okay, you come teach it!"
And he did. And then everyone clapped.

Interesting: I found their little playlist, and their comments are turned off. It's almost as if they don't want to hear corrective information.
