Ten days. That's all that happened between Alejandro Gil's life sentence and Rubén Remigio Ferro's departure from the Supreme People's Court, after 27 years as its president. And to this day, no one has officially explained why.

In this video, we closely examine the accusations made by María Victoria Gil, Alejandro Gil's sister, who stated in an interview with CiberCuba that sources linked to the Cuban judicial system told her that Remigio Ferro refused to sign the guilty verdict in the corruption case, and that this refusal cost him his position. We separate what was actually said from what people are repeating: the two cases were distinct, with a life sentence for espionage and other crimes in one, and a twenty-year prison sentence for corruption in the other. Confusing them completely changes the story.
We also reviewed what the Cuban Criminal Procedure Law says about sentences agreed upon by majority vote, the dissenting opinion of a judge, and the obligation of those who judged the case to sign, to understand whether the reported scenario is legally possible. And we reconstructed the complete chronology: the announcement of the sentence on December 8, 2025; Miguel Díaz-Canel's proposal before the National Assembly on December 18 to "release" Remigio Ferro from his post; the election of Óscar Manuel Silvera Martínez as his replacement within a broader movement for changes in the State; and January 23, 2026, when the Supreme Court rejected the defense's appeals and upheld the sentence, by which time Remigio Ferro was no longer in office.
The conclusion is unsettling for everyone: it is a plausible hypothesis, with an identified source claiming to rely on internal contacts, but without a public sentence, without a known dissenting opinion, and without official corroboration. And that void wasn't created by the press: it was created by a system that doesn't publish its rulings or explain its personnel changes.
