A one-hour deep dive into everything wrong with the internet right now: Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, and Snapchat.

The internet used to be pretty good and then something happened. In this compilation I go through all of it: Google burying real results under ads and AI that recommends eating rocks, Facebook overrun by AI slop and like-farming scams, the absolute lunatics of LinkedIn Part 2, Reddit's very passionate tree communities, YouTube Playables (yes that's a thing), and Snapchat Spotlight which has somehow gotten so much worse since the last time I checked. I did not enjoy most of this research. I did it for you.

Chapters:
00:00 Intro
00:48 What The Hell Happened To Google
09:48 The AI Slop Infestation On Facebook
18:35 LinkedIn Lunatics Part 2
29:23 Reddit Has A Tree Problem
37:52 I Played YouTube Playables So You Don't Have To
48:46 Snapchat Spotlight Is So Much Worse Now

If a dystopian videogame had an evil megacorp that used to have the motto "don't be evil" and removed it, it would have been considered heavy handed storytelling. And yet.

It feels like Google went from "Don't Be Evil" to "Evil is so subjective".

I tried to type out a funny comment, but the Google AI text-predictor told me I should mix an eighth of a cup of Elmer's glue into my keyboard to make the letters stick better. It didn't work, Ryan. It didn't hold at all.

You really shouldn't be so hard on yourself Ryan. Out of all the garbage content that I watch, yours is some of the best.

I googled "Should I be evil" the other day and the AI responded "It's generally a bad idea". So I guess that's their policy now.

I'm in the woods, eating strawberries and building a treehouse. It's the future-past.

"Don't be evil" on anything, is like wearing a shirt that says "I won't rob this bank" when going into a bank.

Googles AI search results stops people from visiting the actual page. A big loss of revenue for those websites.

5:56 so, I'm a paid traffic expert and things have only gotten worse. I'm trying to quit this profession and find anything else to do before I jump off a cliff 😊

My favorite part about Google is when I Google something like a product and its competitor comes up play at the top of the list instead of the thing I explicitly googled
