Yo it’s crazy that the Sushi chef escaped then KJU is like “Yo I want your sushi again you can come back and I won’t kill you” then he hugs him and is forgiven. Like bro must make some of the best sushi lmao

I have been studying North Korea for over a decade. When I first started in 2014 after seeing a Vice documentary, I was so astounded by just how unfair, nonsensical and cruel it all was that I figured “oh this will collapse in the next 2, 3 years tops…” I collected photos from inside the country and started a webpage sharing what I’d found around the internet as if it was going to “open people’s eyes” or raise awareness to the tragedy somehow so they could be rescued. How pitifully naive I was.

Here it is 11 years later. Practically nothing has changed. But, more people are getting information about the word out about their struggle. Including creators like you who do so in ways that is easily consumable and understandable by a mainstream audience.

So thank you for what you did here. I still pray for the people living in that slave state of miserable redundancy and stifled creativity. But I have no clue what will ever bring it to its knees at this point.

Both my grandfathers escaped North Korea mid Korean War. I understand the memes that are correlated with North Korea, but it truly is a serious topic. I understand content is always about “make it attention deficit friendly!” One of my grandfather’s entire family was burned alive along with their home. Of course they always downplay the experiences, but we truly have it better than we think we do. So PLEASE don’t make a joke out of my peoples suffering.

I had no idea Ric Flair had a wrestling event in North Korea.
That's some fascinating bit of wresting history right there.

23:49 as a WWE fan, it was so cool to hear you talk about this. You missed the part of Eric taking his morning run and GETTING ARRESTED. It was actually so funny. They have a podcast with Bruce and Eric, they talk about this show and honestly he still says worst trip of his life. Honestly I CANT BELIEVE Eric thought that was a good idea at the time… LIKE NO…. 😂 He even says he wasn’t high but it was the worst decision he’d made. Really listening to Eric talk about getting arrested on the street in front of little kids is actually insane.

Correction to the Otto Warmbier situation - the family has successfully seized more than 2 million dollars worth of hidden North Korean assets, including an entire cargo freighter North Korea owned. And any time they find another North Korean asset within America’s sphere of influence, the state department can attempt to seize it and give it to the family until the judgment is satisfied. A small bit of justice but it’s sort of satisfying to think what they did to Otto basically wrecked their ability to openly act financially within the United States.
