There real scandal here is how the British Establishment's system for filling all our rivers with industrial waste, sewage and radiation somehow missed this one.

Our chalk streams should be protected in the same way as our national parks and even the same way as Stonehenge is protected. I’m so glad that there’s people like you who dedicate their lives to protecting our beautiful places

I manage a fishing lake. Everyone keeps nagging me to cut the trees and remove the roots from the waterside and you cannot teach them why that is a bad idea. They want me to remove the roots and put either concrete or a wooden structure at cost. I dont know why they want to change the way it is in the first place it doesnt benefit anything and adds a maintenance cost when the roots will hold it just fine and the trees provide food, it is also where the fish breed so very essential which somehow they overlook. These townies just cannot comprehend how nature works. They want me to number the places to fish but i came here to get away from numbers, they just dont get it

Petition signed.  Sadly my pension budget doesn’t allow any material support, but please keep making these and gaining audience.  It’s needed!

What's truly infuriating is that there is so much almost permanently degraded land that could be used instead. There is never a reason to destroy habitat when there are so many unused industrial and urban sites. Other than their god, Profit.

"I thought this fish was a log, but it's not - it's a fish"

THIS is the insightful nature commentary we come here for!

I didn’t realise that bill allowed them to just pay to destroy the environment. That’s disgusting. Thanks for the awareness.

There is no excuse for the destruction of important natural habitats. As Oscar said, they “know the price of everything and the value of nothing”

I live near a chalk stream, a few years ago it was crystal clear, now it’s pretty much 0 visibility. It’s pretty depressing what can happen in such a short period of time

Its shocking that Developers are being allowed to even build near rivers. Beyond the obvious harms this video lays out, those houses WILL flood and get damaged regularly.

Richard Hammond did a documentary series for Channel 4 about Rivers and in one episode it covered the River Test, one of the largest and longest Chalk Rivers and it was my introduction. It was a good documentary but it left me feeling a little numb, to see such a globally unique/rare habitat threatened is saddening. It's not just the destruction of a British River, a British Habitat it is something that barely exists anywhere else.

I am from the north.
Respect to these precious chalk streams.
Fight for their survival  💪

Profit comes first is such a horroble principle.  In the long term it will be the end of everything, even us.

That's a really heart breaking bill to see. The government being influenced by developers with zero intentions of ensuring our land is healthy for generations to come in the name of solving the housing crisis is sickening. We need more houses while positively maintaining our relationship with the environment.

So instead of it being protected land it would simply become premium land.

My two favourite things about the U.K. is the ancient buildings we have and our wild life.

The country is a very large garden with lots of very old beautiful buildings.

Everything they build and have built for the last 100 years takes away what the things which makes Britain, Britain.

I was born in Winchester and grew up there. The river itchen there is just stunning. Crystal clear chalk beds , that I paddled in as a child down the meadows at St Cross or tun bridge near St Catherine's Hill. Memories I hold dear and want my future generations to see

Just down the road from me, great to see it showcased here. Absolutely gorgeous habitats that should be protected at all costs.

Ranunculus used to be a common sight in most of my local rivers, unfortunately due to diffuse pollution and many other environmental issues it's all but gone, all in the space of one lifetime. It's so very sad 😥

I grew up near to Letcombe Brook in Oxfordshire, it was the most amazing playground for a curious child 🙏
