I used to read Lil' Abner in the Sunday comic strips when I was a kid (I'm 72 now), but had no idea there was an animated film version. The animation reminded me a bit of Dave Fleischer and the Popeye cartoons.
I'm 73. Used to read the comics in the San Jose Mercury as a kid. I do remember this particular cartoon and probably a couple of others. It would be nice to have them bundled together for viewing.
Born May 1991. I was not the least bit aware of "li'l abner" throughout my childhood. I went through a HUGE retro comic phase in my 20s in the 2010s. Never read it, but only became partly aware of it during my comic phase.
This series was produced when Dave Fleischer became he Producer for the Screen Gems studio. It's too bad that Columbia cannot produce the original color negatives on this series. I was in a cartoon package that NBC ran on THW RUFF N' REDDY SHOW and KING LEONARDO broadcast in color. I saw one of them on a color television in Montgomery Ward one Saturday morning.
There was a small "Dog Patch" attraction at Lake of The Ozarks when I was a kid back in the 60s and 70s. There was also a big "Dog Patch" attraction in Northern Arkansas that lasted many years as well. "Dog Patch" comic strip ran in newspapers all over the US and was very popular for many years. I did not know there was an animated version until just now.
