Courtney forgiving Gwen, winning all stars, and getting together with Scott would have been the greatest redemption for her character similar to how Heather got in World Tour. Unfortunately the writers just were not there for her…
And heavily favored mikes abysmal plot line instead…like what were they doing
All Stars Courtney felt like they remembered she's "mean" but not the context behind how or why. She calls Cameron and Sierra nerds but like THATS YOU COURTNEY!!!!! You're a nerd too!!!!!!
3:29 I always try to point out she calculated CORRECTLY! She was only wrong because Izzy switched teams afterwards and Leshawna threw Heather in. She's was correct in her assessment of who would jump
it's fascinating how the writing for this show fumbled so hard that we're still talking about it over a decade later, and yeah I'd like more total drama analysis
Switch1e burned a cardboard cutout of Courtney during his Comprehensive Roast of All Stars from sadness. And it was due to Sundae Muddy Sundae portraying Courtney in such an awful way. And honestly....... I think it's justified
Courtney has always been a controversial character. She started out being good in Island, but in action she acted more selfish and spoiled, and starting with the love triangle in world tour she really lost it. I liked her friendship with Gwen in all-stars but you know what happened next.
Sunday Muddy Sundae would’ve been so much better if there was no chart and Mal just made a fake one to frame her and to prove her innocence she takes Gwen’s offer of voting herself off, definitely wouldn’t get vomited on by sharks and burst into tears. She’d be forgiven after her elimination and stay friends with Gwen and either get back with Duncan or remain with Scott. It would’ve been cool if she was a finalist alongside Zoey or Mike but I get why that didn’t happen.
Something that really pisses me off is that in sunny muddy Sunday, is that all of the scopes look perfect. Including SCOTT, a messy farm boy. Expect of Courtney, who has incredibly messy scopes. Remember, mind you, SHE WORKED IN AN ICE CREAM SHOP. That's like having Trent lose final 5 in a gutair playing challenge.
It was the biggest nightmare ever seeing Courtney drop repeatedly over and over for me. From a tier in island to f tier in action to c/d in world tour (a in the first half and f in the second half) and an a in the first half of all stars and then I don’t think I need to explain the rest… they really failed her. She’s not the worst character imo since she at least has a good season and a half but man did they make her terrible. The writers really were not there for her after island and part of world tour.
I hold a lot of sympathy for the TD writers with Duncney because executive meddling fucking sucks. And honestly you could tell by the way World Tour is written that they did not care about the Love Triangle plot because Gwen is eliminated immediately, and Courtney and Duncan barely interact. In fact Duncan isn't even really apart of this plotline at all, aside from the initial kiss, because he just goes off to do his own thing with Alejandro (which is admittedly a really fun plotline.)
But even with context... I mean... They could've done a better job than this.
Island is not my favorite season of the show (it's actually ROTI) but as the series went on, it's almost undeniable that Total Drama emphasized it's parody aspects with Feral Ezekiel, the Toxic Waste, and very gimmicky characters. But it also clearly effected the characters that were more grounded and nuanced before. Lindsay in All Stars just becomes dumber than she ever was, Duncan's traits about him wanting to maintain his bad boy image are cranked up to an 11 ending with him going to prison, and Chris McLean just becomes a sadistic maniac. And while I don't think it's set in stone that Courtney has it worse than anyone else, she's definitely in contention.
It's ironic, because the point of a lot of the Island characters was taking stereotypes and adding more depth to them so that they aren't JUST the archetype that they're based on. But when you remove the stuff that gave them more depth... They just become the one-note archetype that they're based on. The ROTI Cast also kind of has this problem with Scott, Jo, and sorta Lightning.
Also yes, I'd love for more Total Drama content because it's my favorite show of all time.
