I was summoned by Vibe Tribe - Tristan's VA popping in too. I just wanted to say it means a lot to me seeing fellow trans watchers clock how much of myself I put into Tristan. I indeed helped shape a lot of Tristan's story including writing different scenes for them in the season as well as their interview and seeing that - without even being told - that comes through makes me really happy. I've always wanted their story regarding that to be both explicit and not the only thing to define their character. Seeing fellow trans people connect with that continuously hits me in the feels.
Biased, I would've loved a few more Trinji scenes this season, but I'm glad people nail their dynamic pretty on the head even without being a main plot. Their stories function as a parallel to each other and their relationship is based in friendship as the foundation. I think that natural chemistry you talk about is because of their character cores. At Tristan's core: they want comfort, but suffer the consequences of freedom and cutting their own path. At Benji's core: he wants freedom, and is suffocated by the security of his upbringing and the high expectations that come with it. They bring out qualities that push growth within each other vs being stagnant - which does wonders for two characters that are mostly boxed in as comedic reliefs. Very early season I had expressed the desire for Tris to have a romantic interest as it's a very unexplored thing - and having it end up as Benji was a hidden gem.
I enjoy listening to your takes (I haven't even finished this video yet so I'll have to but I wanted to comment on some of the lil Tris bits) Cant wait to see your thoughts when season wrap up. I know Vanessa will be pinging me when your next video drops. I yap way too much but I just wanted to express how much I enjoy you digging into that š¤āØ
Hannah's VA here! ⤠I'm so happy you liked the newest episode! Also, you are very thorough and thoughtful with your reviews, so it was a fun watch! Can't wait to watch your future vids!
Howdy hey, Zaid's VA here! As someone who does animation analysis on the side. I really have been enjoying your analysis on the season and I'm happy you enjoyed Zaid in ep23! Trust me when I say the person who wanted to see Zaid truly shine the most was me as there are a lot of experiences that he and I share. I wanted to really make that shine in this episode and I'm glad it was very well received by a lot of people! You've been on the money on a lot of your analysis so far and I'm intrigued on how you will perceive the end of this season! (Side note, I tried to make Zaid flame Logan harder with improv but it didn't go through unfortunately u.u)
11:10 Honestly, Disventure Camp struggles with themes like this a lot. It really showed this season with how Isabelās faith felt underrepresented, and Anastasiaās arc undermined her intelligence, making her fall for things she shouldāve seen through
I wouldn't blame you if you decided not to cover Season 5, if you think you'd rather shift to OSC content then you should definitely go for it
As a person who lost my mom, i found the portrayal to be utterly unrealistic in every way. The writers clearly have no idea just how life-ruining losing a parent actually is, i will literally never be succesful or truly happy because of it
24:11 carnival of chaos round 2 wouldve been a good concept for season 5 haven't not been scrapped by jared. and since tdi did a similar thing with action + world tour i wouldve love to see the DC4 early boots and many more in action than being miss potential š but i guess were getting fans vs favorites.
The worst part of DC as a whole is it's too emotional at certain points where it's not needed. Also Jade voting off Isabel isn't bad but the biggest problem is Jade could beat her in the finale. Anastasia and Logan are both physically strong, don't get me wrong she can win if given a chance but not really so she really should have tried to have a final 3 with her, Hannah, and Isabel to make sure to team up with Isabel to get Hannah and make it into the final 2.
I was having a very bad day due to the loss of a loved one and my friends being not so friendly so this actually made my day. At least it made my day the best it could be, lol.
Okay onto the stuff people care about, firstly Hannahās storyline would work a lot better if she was in a non-competition show where we could get to know her and her past better so we could grow attached to her relationship with her mom. I ADORE plot lines where characters have trauma and they have to recover and learn to trust and love again like⦠like a person. But Hannah doesnāt feel like a person as much as they probably want her to be. They definitely put all their cards on the table and rush things a lot. Same goes for Hannah and Loganās relationship. Friends? I could believe it. Blossoming romance? ā¦yeah hell no, I donāt see it. I definitely sympathize with Hannah a lot because I lost my aunt literally earlier today but⦠I canāt excuse bad writing.
Anastasia is a character I kept making excuses for because I liked her early on and I think I needed to just accept that I just donāt like her very much anymore. Her reaction to Loganās lie felt very out of character for her but it just keeps proving Loganās plot armor being a real thing and not something Iām just hallucinating. There is zero explanation for why that scene went that way other than āLogan can do no harm and we must make that clearā
She SHOULD have gotten pissed at him because her agreeing to be his friendly rival means shes not on his side and⦠she shouldāve just been against him because of her anger and not just because
11:11 ā¦oh. Oh. Oh my god. I⦠did not know that. I love animals theyāve literally saved my life on multiple occasions Iā¦
This has upset me.
..well anyway, Isabelās death in the challenge being because of greed was a really cool detail that shows that she was being a lot more selfish as a result of the game. Her elimination was good because she didnāt blow up at the rest of the cast and Jade. Itās what made Amelieās elimination less egregious.
Episode 23 was the best in the season and itās not even very close.
I think the reason the motel episodes are so much better than the actual episodes is the lack of melodrama. The most drama that happens is with the vibe tribe and those around them and it wasnāt as bad because it had the right tone to it. I relate to Tristan a lot because while I donāt have homophobic parents, I have been pushed to some of my lowest points because of it.
This episode being incredibly good is cool but⦠it makes me angry more than anything because literally all of these characters are shown to be significantly better outside of the competition. The worst scene of the episode was the round table with the final 4 and even then it was just kinda mediocre. I WISH they were this good in the actual competition episodes. Although Alessio, Ted, Lynda and Diego have a lot of potential and it kinda pissed me off that theyāre just getting canned here. (Unless we get a season 6)
Episode 24 was really bad and Iām happy someone else said it. Not only have these characters graded on me because of the amount of time they have on screen and they were all really mediocre in this episode. Logan and Hannah blushing at each other was really funny because there was 0 indication that it was going to be anywhere near canon. I much prefer them as friends and they should have stayed that way imo. Logan getting mad at Jade for flipping on Isabel is really funny in hindsight (at least I think he did? I remember him doing that I swear)
Anastasia not knowing how to drive a bumper car was⦠something. Yāknow for a character whose whole introduction was about how she was going to prove she was smarter and stronger than the asshole misogynists of the world and this is⦠not what I expected.
29:36 If I had a nickel every time Lexiās favorite character left got out⦠Iād probably have a few nickels I donāt know.
Hannah and Logan deciding not to flip on each other and voting out Jade wouldāve been a lot better than what happened, but Anastasia and Jade splitting the vote is stupid in the first place so⦠bleh.
āLogan flipped and is madā āAnastasia is dumbā āDub Duo is a better ship than waterloggedā
Might be the best notes Iāve ever seen.
Honestly your description of Logan reminds me of someone like Eric Cartman or Calliou. Annoying and does bad things and almost always gets away with it and never learns his lesson? Sounds about right to me.
