Hopelessness Is a Resource for the Tyrannical: Katie Couric with David Frum

Katie Couric

Katie sits down with David Frum, Atlantic writer and host of an eponymous podcast, to take stock of a dizzying news cycle: a government shutdown framed around false claims about healthcare for immigrants, a surreal Quantico meeting where military leaders were treated as political props, and Donald Trump’s vow to punish his opponents through prosecutions. Frum explains how the U.S. budgeting system turned into a "failure machine,” what’s happening to Supreme Court neutrality, and what it means when Trump spreads vulgar AI videos of his opponents. Frum’s bottom line? This might be a fire hose of news, but it's our duty as citizens to keep up, not tune out.

I'm rereading "Lucky Loser" by the NY Times journalists who won a Pulitzer Prize for their ten year investigation into Trump's history of tax cheating. Lucky loser documents his entire life history in business dealings, and it's astonishing and terrifying that America handed the keys to the Kingdom to this swindler and criminal.

Challenge to Americans: Don’t be intimidated. Be courageous and vote.

100% agree when Mr. Frum said, "It's wicked but not insane." This describes the whole administration; it is not crazy, it's evil. Satanic. It's all about money, and the love and greed for money is the root of all kinds of evil.

Thank you for your bravery.
I so agree with doing this for your grandchildren.
That’s why I, a 77 year old grandmother, have been to 13 peaceful protests so far. I want to be able to say to my grandchildren, “ I stood up for your future to preserve the democracy handed down by our forefathers.”

This is not leadership. This is tragically not going to end well for our country. No one is stepping up to save our Republic and It may be too late.

Thank you Katie for covering this regime! This is what 60 minutes used to be back in the day!

We don’t truly appreciate something until we lose it. We just barely kept free speech and Jimmy Kimmel. As an Independent voter and dedicated to Democracy, my heart breaks. My ancestors fought in the revolutionary war. Blood of my ancestors protected my rights. We white haired folks are protesting. Troops should not be on our streets. People should not be disappeared. 😮

I have jury duty on October 15. As a Mexican American and yes, I was born in TX which apparently ICE could care less about, I will make sure to have my TX ID, passport ID and leave passport book at home just in case I get illegally detained by 🌮’s Gestapo!

Trump does not have any respect nor inclination to respect the law nor the constitution. He is a convicted criminal. America has some significant problems to address many challenging issues pertaining to their government and the guidelines it follows.

Every other country in the world is asking the same question. How do we do business with an actor who says he is not bound by the deals he strikes? How is being an unreliable partner whose highest ideal is to return to the level of industrial efficiency of the sixties a winning strategy? What a mess.

I think Frum makes some reasonable points about the Trump administration. However, I think it doesn’t matter what any of us say. Trump has no conscience. All of these interviews and experts still
treat him as a “normal” person making bad choices. He’s not! He is a malignant narcissist with sociopathic personality. I still do not understand why people aren’t explaining how this correlates to where we are now in America!
If we want to stop the flow of drugs then we need to begin with identifying and addressing “why there is a demand for drugs from Americans?”
Thanks Katie / David for your calm insights and fighting for America.

It's amazing how quickly and rationally David Frum can respond.

Katie - it is so exhausting hearing all the news coming out of the USA… it is incredibly sad because it is everything that is NOT how we see your country. Keep strong, we appreciate your efforts… if you need to escape you can come to Australia… much love and peace Steve 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
