If Music is Gods language then Dhrupad are the  Vibrations !!

Do an interview with Anuja K. She has given a Ted talk as well.

First time some reaction channel found dhrupad I kept telling on all channels. That's one of the most beautiful explorations of low notes

Dhrupad is form within Hindustani Classical Music like Khayal.

14:59 for Hindustani classical, the instrument used is pakhavaj but for Carnatic, a mridangam is used.

Pelva Naik and Ustad Bahauddin Dagar on Rudra Veena singing Raag Vardhini is just divine.

3 cheers to Mr Dinkar 👍🏻

Dhrupad is one of the oldest form of classical singing in India … has a very close resemblance to how we chant the vedas … usually Dhrupad singing is dedicated to Lord Shiva or to Lord Krishna ( especially to depict the Rang or Chanchal Bhav)  most classical singers usually practice Dhrupad singing to get their pitch and notes right cause in Dhrupad one holds the note for much longer without any ornamentation … one might find some similarity to even Sufi Music … had the honor of personally meeting and Listening to “Ustad Syeduddin Dagar
“ who is a direct descendant of the Tansen Family tree … he use to teach and practice Dhrupad in Germany and has a great performance in France … you can google and find it …

12:30 the clipping used for Rudra Veena is actually using higher strings. Normally in Dhrupad Classical Music lower strings are played.

Thanks so much for this information. Dhrupad Dhamar is a very fascinating part of  traditional  Hindustani music.

What is played with Drupad is Pakhāwaj. Similar type of instrument played with Carnatic music is Mridangam. The former is bit towards low-mid whereas the later one is around mid and sounds bit nasal. They differ a lot in timbre.

I am from Gwalior , the birthplace of tansen and a UNESCO recognised city of Music , we have a temple here which is tilted like leaning tower , it is said its where tansen used to practice . We also had a king who loved all forms of arts including music , dance , beautiful architecture and paintings which can still be on the fort of gwalior therefore government of MP opened rajamansingh tomar university of arts that has specialisation drupad singing center which takes part in tansen samaroh every year .

The southern Carnatic percussion instrument is called the Mridangam.

1. A correction --  Dhrupad is NOT a 3rd style of Indian classical music but is part of the ancient North Indian or Hindustani tradition. In fact, it is the mother of post- Mughal (Muslim invasion classical music.

Its objective or goal is not entertainment but rather, Self-realization. It is purely devotional. The Muslim invaders liked the raagas and style but could not resonate with its devotional nature , so they changed it to the 'khyal'  'style which is more popular than dhrupad, probably because its easier!

2. Alaap is done using syllables from the sacred phrase 'Hari (pronounced as hurry) Anantha  Narayana  which is a description of
the Supreme Being, primarily Lord Vishnu, emphasizing his infinite, all-pervasive, and merciful nature.  Therefore you can hear syllables like Ri, na, tha, and sometimes da . The ma in ' 'N9m' Thom' is usually used to give a note of finality to a particular piece of Alaap, somewhat like the m sound that comes in the end of the primordial sound of Creation, namely OM.

Whatever I have mentioned is with reference  to the Dagar Bani of the dhrupad shaolin (style).

Notable exponents of this style include members of the Dagar family, the Gundecha brothers, Pandit Uday Bhavalkar and many more. Among the younger artistes, I find Niloy Ehsan's approach to be extremely intense. You can also discern the shrutis very clearly in his rendition.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year and an even happier musical journey!  God bless!

7:50 Raag bhupali by Gundecha brothers one of my fav dhrupad creations ♥️ reminds me of the purity of ancient temples & deities

The Karnataka percussion instrument that resembles the Pakhaavaj here is called a Mridangam. Very interesting to see your responses and interpretation of our music 😊

Pakawaj is the percussive instrument for dhrupad, tabla for hindustani  ., the mridangam for carnatic music.

Woah, first time I'm this early. It's uncanny to see a video with zero comments.

Editing so my comment actually has some substance. I am a huge fan of dhrupad sangeet and was lucky enough to attend a live dhrupad concert earlier this year, with front row seats to boot. I wish you could react to a dhrupad concert once but that's probably not going to make it because of the sheer length of the recordings. (They go anywhere from half an hour to 2.5hrs long) But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it in your own time!

Dear Johnny and Richard. A big thanks to you two for what you guys are doing. Thanks for introducing me and many others like me to the wonderful world of the Indian classical music. What I like about your reactions is not simply your level of understanding of musical notes/ n singing but your great inquisitive approach to learn more. You show deep respect for the ancient Indian tradition in music which I love. You appreciate that the Indian classical music is meditative or has got a divine or celestial quality to it which indicates your profound sense of music itself. I enjoy that the learned people like you are appreciating my culture
