“Undies” in Australia lol

@sharonanderson6202 4 months ago

I agree SO MUCH about undies showing. It’s a pet peeve for me. It doesn’t matter what size or shape you are, but poorly fitting clothes are not flattering.

Such a helpful video! I never realized that fit and proportions make a bigger difference than the price tag. Definitely rethinking how I style my outfits now. Thanks for the great tips!

Very good points, but I would also include the importance of a good hair style that is well kept. When my hair grows too long for my cut I am instantly the Frump Queen!

I have a dark blue leather belt which approximates the color of jeans. It can give jeans a nice, finished look without looking busy. I find my legs look longer too!

Totally agree!

Meghan Markle could do,with your advice. She’s a shocker.

Hmmm...another video filled with advice for older women. Actually, I'm 65 and no longer have breasts because of cancer. I've decided to go flat, so none of my clothes hangs right. I like the "frumpy" look on me. I survived cancer so I'm not that interested in whether or not my clothes don't look right to other people---people I'm totally disinterested in impressing. Honestly, I'm just happy to still be here and if that means wearing clothes that I like but someone might not, so be it. One thing I won't compromise on is my hair. Cancer treatment changed it considerably and now I keep my salt and pepper neatly cut short. And I'm adamant about maintaining it. All of that said, I truly do enjoy your videos, even if I often disagree with them. It's just good to see a woman "our age" talking about fashion. You're lovely, by the way.

In Canada, we never say knickers, but underpants or panties. I always know where someone is from when they say knickers, it is one of the charming idioms of the British. You made some great points for us to think about as we dress for our days. As for trousers, they suggest very tailored pants, often with front pleats and side pockets. We would use that for men’s clothing more than women’s.

Hi Annemarie after watching a load of your videos I went shopping today with my ‘frump’ radar on & it really made a difference. I avoided the baggy, shapeless tops & got some gorgeous things to suit my size 18 frame that make me feel fashionable again! Thank you for all your tips . I’d love to have you come along with me as my own personal shopper, haha 😉

I'd add wearing too much black as aging. I went to a posh cocktail party on Valentines where the majority of people were in their 60s and these people have a lot of money. Almost everyone was in head to toe black, yes the clothes were expensive but they were shapeless and black. It was like they were all trying to disappear.

I think there is still too much going on with the jeans. Count the number of horizontal lines -- striped cardigan, white shirt tucked into jeans, and large obvious cuffs on the bottom of the jeans. I would either wear uncuffed jeans or I would untuck the top.

I love my Comfelie bra that you recommended in a previous video. It's the first bra that is comfortable and I can wear more than an hour. I broke a rib where the bra strap around the ribcage sits, and bras have been agony after that. (Even though it's been 3 years) So I've been going without, which as you know isn't the most attractive in the over 60 gal. So thank you thank you for recommending something that I can actually wear, is comfortable and makes my clothes look good. 😻

I am 86 but still want to look okay. I am little, but have a poofy tummy which nothing seems to cure. Consequently I have no waist so it has become a conundrum!!! Any suggestions would be so welcome!!!!

@elizabethchadwick9808 4 months ago

Agree with everything you say. I refuse to wear wide leg jeans and baggy sweaters because they don't suit me. I always look as if they are digesting me! Know what suits you! I wear a straight leg and a lightly fitted tee or sweater (Nearly New Cashmere V necks are a staple). I've found that belts need mostly to be the same colour as the jean for me to enhance leg length, although can get away with coloured belts on a high waisted jean. I've been wearing Stripe and Stare for around 3 years now and wouldn't wear anything else - most comfortable knicks ever! I now follow Jodie Gillary's Neutrals and Accents system which has been a complete gamechanger for me. I can highly recommend her book "How to Stop Spending Money You Don't Have on Clothes You Don't Wear." Basically you choose 5 things that are absolute staples of your way of dressing and those are your neutrals (nothing to do with colour) and you use at least 2 of them (but all 5 is great) when you get dressed. And there are 3 accents and you choose one. My 5 neutrals for example are 1. Denim or substantial fabric. 2. Close fitting (but obvs not to show bulges) 3. Layer 4. Solid colours 5 slim A-line or pencil skirt. My accents are 1. Belt, 2 pattern, 3, scarf or necklace. Today I am wearing Halara straight leg jeans, a ribbed sweater in spring green, a navy M&S knitted waistcoat, which gives me a score of 4/5. Then navy patterned murano glass necklace, and patterned navy sneakers, giving me 2/3 on the accents. Someone else will choose totally different neutrals and accents, but once you get the system of putting it together, it's a formula that works individually and every time and can be changed if you get bored. What you were saying about layers and belts reminded me of Gillary's system, which adapts to everyone.
