One of my all time favourite childhood films, and even better than the original, in my opinion. Lindsay Lohan was brilliant, as not only did she have to play two radically different characters, but she had to master four different accents: American, British, American pretending to be British, and British pretending to be American.

On my most recent rewatch, I noticed an extra detail that made me love the romance between the parents even more. Every similarity that the two girls have (loving Oreos with peanut butter, playing poker, knowing how to fence, etc.) are all very likely things that each parent shared with their daughter without ever knowing the other was doing it, which solidifies even more they’re supposed to be together. Whether they were hobbies that they knew the other liked or not, they still individually introduced their daughters to those things.

Definitely one of my favorite movies. I so thought Lindsay had a twin we didn’t know about back in the day. Lol

19:17 I’ve seen people saying that Meredith wasn’t the villain for wanting to marry well. And tbh, even if she was just being a straight up gold digger, I’m fine with that, but she was the villain for how she treated the kids! Idk how people completely overlook that part and act like Hallie and Annie were just being brats but when Meredith and Annie first met, Meredith was basically like, “yeah I’m here for the money and your dad likes me better 💅”

The parent trap is everything I could ever ask for in a film as far as fun and whimsical.   I will always love Natasha Richardson and the warm and wonderful character she plays as Elizabeth. RIP NR.

A close second is definitely  Lisa Ann Walter as Chessy.  Her scene is always warmed my heart and made me laugh.

When you talk about twins being all the rage then, it makes me think what the "in" relationship dynamic is right now. We had a combined family step siblings phase. Nuclear family phase.

It's cousins. Cousins are the new thing in media. The kids shows my kid watches all now have guest characters that are cousins, there's movies coming out where the relationship is cousins, etc lol

Twins are OUT! Cousins are the hot new trend!

Bob, we now need a Sister Sister video essay particularly on how great Lisa and Ray were especially since both are very underrated when it comes to the conversation of 90’s sitcom parents

think what i love about natasha richardson as well is that her son’s gone on record to say that he loves watching the film because it reminds him so much of the way she was at home with him.

this film meant everything to me as a kid who grew up with separated parents, not to mention how much liz and nick reminded me of my mum and dad so it got me through a lot of hard times both as a kid and as an adult. obviously now i know why my mum and dad could never get back together but, at least at the ripe age of 8 this film gave me hope, then when i hadn’t spoken to my dad in years in my early twenties that scene when annie reunites with nick just about killed me as cathartic as it was.

not to mention that score. every time i hear something from silvestri i always brings me back to this movie from avengers to forest gump (it’s criminal this is one of his few scores not on streaming).

dreams have no end is up there with the real hero from tony’s funeral for me when it comes to scores that hit you in the feels.

Hey Bob, not sure if you noticed this but, another Charmed connection to The Parent Trap is the actress who played the villian Meridith in the movie is the same actress who played Clea the demon in the Season 6 episode Witch Wars.

It Takes Two and The Parent Trap are two perfect 90s movies! Magical, nostalgic, perfect movies!!! I love that so much intricacy and depth was put into The Parent Trap. The song that plays while the model in the bridal uniform is dancing with Haley is so dope!!! Brings back memories of eating popcorn in the movie theatre being super impressed. The casting is as incredible as the dialogue. Thanks to this movie I have a love for peanut butter and oreo cookies.

PS: Thanks for mentioning Sister Sister and Two of A Kind. The 1998-1999 television year was so awesome getting to watch Tia and Tamera in college while also getting to watch Mary and Kate and Ashley in junior high school. Awesome video review!

For me, I liken The Parent Trap to a fairy tale. One set in modern times, but a fairy tale nonetheless. People lose me when they try putting in real world logic to fairy tales, and this is no exception.

This was definitely a film on heavy rotation in my house. This and first wives club, which oddly enough uses the same color scheme.

The 90s made the best remakes either from earlier / foreign films or animated. Chessy is one of my favorite characters in the movie. She personally reminds me of my aunt (from my dad’s side) who somewhat resembles Chessy. Voice and all. God bless her 😆🩵

I also watched this movie countless times growing up. And I couldn't tell you why but my cousin used to repeat "Hello, Pet, you may call me aunt Vickie!" ad nauseam and I laughed EVERY time 😂.

What The Parent Trap achieves so greatly is how to make the pacing seem natural within its storytelling.  

Haven grown up watching Lindsay Lohan from the beginning, I connected with the mischief and the yearning for a complete family.


The movie could've fallen apart for the fact she had no twin, or have cast twins doing the typical dynamic of "tomboy and girly girl" but I am glad that she made it all natural.

The late Natasha Richardson takes  my heart and soul the second she appears on screen and her warmth and comedic timing, combined with her characters blend of high class English Rose royalty with elegant goddess while still being the down to earth mother figure.

Dennis Quiad is often overlooked in my books but haven rewatched the movie, I can see how he feels more comfortable being the laid bavk characters with no obnoxious swagger but a good rhythm and suave.

Now it's time to make my defense.

As Elaine Hendrix pointed out in a 2018 interview for the movies 20th anniversary, Meredith Blake was not a gold digger of such kind, the OG girlboss who was a major publicist for a multi million dollar company. She didn't need her fiancé's cash

Also, there should be some accountability of how Nick and Elizabeth separated the twins and never mentioned each other again only to have themselves warped in some "juvenile" scheme to form a wholesome reunion.

As a fan of the original (and Hayley Mills) I wasn't sure about this one when it came out but watched it anyway. So glad I did. I found it surprisingly brilliant. Lindsay Lohan's acting is amazing.
