I just turned 74 years old. I’ve been boating all my life. I have to say that the things that you are most scared about give you the greatest feeling of accomplishment when you have done them. If I could give this video more than one thumbs up, I certainly would! I love following your channel and I love the building and rebuilding process that you share. Keep up the good work, Luke.

I love how you combined the whole process into one video. I watched and would remember walking down to the harbor on Tylerton and see her tied up 2 slips over from my father boat. Luke, I love your honesty and humility—you’re an inspiration to anyone trying to get something done. I didn’t think I’d sit through a two-hour video, but dag-nammit, I did! Believe it or not, if you ever did a grand re-opening of your crab stand, I’d travel all the way from Florida just to be there.

This was actually the first video of yours I ever watched. Somehow, I started off looking at boat restoration videos and ended up here—and I’m glad I did.

i'm from Newport News, Va. & grew up on the James River. The oyster boats were built with oak & juniper wood & NOT mahogany or teak wood. The gunwhale & bow deck was always covered in teak & the interior was usually covered over with a mahogany veneer wood, bt most waterman didn't bother being fancy w/a workboat as the pilothouse was usually painted w/a lead based battleship gray on the 1st coat & a white lead based house paint, both interior & exterior & a copper based paint & hot pepper powder mixed into the paint for under the waterline which stops barnacle formation for a few years. During hurricane weather, the watermen would anchor their boats down with ballast stones & purposely sink their boats in a small harbor to avoid having their oyster/crab boats slam into other boats or being washed up onto land. It was much easier for the watermen to refloat their boats than too deal w/a dried out boat. The watermen would find a sandbar so the barnacles would be cleaned off by just scrapen the hull 1/2 on repeated attempts of runnin forward & reversing off the sandbar. Haulouts for oysterboats wasn't not a common operation, as props were alot cheaper than a haulout. An oyster/crab boat was ONLY hauled-out if there was a severe amount of leaking & rechinking & renailing was then  done. The man who sold U that boat saw U coming, as that was a $700.00 HUNKoJUNK...The old saying is, THERE'S A FISH BORN EVERYDAY, U SUCKER !

Just fixed up my first boat, and your videos have been pretty inspiring. I get burnt out and have the same habit of getting into one project then getting distracted and working on other projects, so it’s great to know I’m not the only one
