At 19, my ENT said my otosclerosis was the worst he had ever seen.
He didn’t want to preform surgery on someone so young, so he recommended me getting a hearing aid.

4 years later and I’m still very happy with my hearing aid.

I was diagnosed with otosclerosis when I was young (my mum also had the condition) In 1980, aged 17, I had a stapedectomy which was a success. 42 years later I have had to have my first hearing aids (probably due to age and a noisy career in construction, always wore ear defenders due to my history) this is just to say there can be a good surgical outcome so is always worth considering.

Thank you so much for the video on this. Having been recently diagnosed with otosclerosis, I want to mention that I am sure my grandmother and mother had it.

I have had tinnitus since I was a pre-teen/teen.  My doctor always said I had a cold but I knew that could not be right. In my 30's my hearing was obviously becoming worse.  I was 40 when I had my first hearing aids and was told my hearing was past the point of having a stapedectomy. My hearing loss is considered profound now at age 68 but I have now had my first stapedectomy surgery. It has been almost a week and I can hear my husband.  I am constantly scaring myself when I shut a door or cabinet because of the noise I have not heard for years!  I may still have to use my hearing aid but I will be able to hear my grand babies without my hearing aids! My grandfather, my dad and 3 out of 4 of his children have otosclerosis.

Do ear ringing  disappear  after surgery?

I had this surgery 1 year ago,my hearing loss has increased since then and my new doctor suggesting me to have another surgery in that ear or in another ear.
I had hearing loss since last 7 years, initially it was unnoticeable but after 1 year it tends to increae resulting in mind hearing loss,and now i am having sever hearing loss in operated left ear after this surgery.I didn't do surgery in my right ear where i am having moderate hearing loss in right ear.I really don't know what to do now,I am 21 years old

I have this, was diagnosed at age 26. It has been ten years since, i will probably get the surgery in the future. Luckily for me, Im one of the people where it only affects one ear and I can hear normally in my other ear , so it hasnt been debilitating. The only thing that is getting me to get the surgery is the Tinnitus which is recently starting to get worse.

Age limit for surgery ?

My insurance won't cover hearing aids for otosclerosis, but they will cover surgery, go figure!  I had my first surgery 9/8/2022.  Completely resolved Carhart's notch!  Second surgery on 2/29.
