My aunt Sugar Pie DeSanto {my grandmother's older sister R.I.P.] was an artist on the label and did many songs with Etta James. I love that she's in this doc.
He was truly an unsung song writer and producer of this time who worked with Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Junior Wells, etc. at Chess records. My uncle later recorded on his own label, Chief records.
He never received his true just due...but many know one of his most famous work: "Mannish Boy" which has been recorded and re-recorded by multiple greats as well as used in commercials and in movies throughout the years.
Thank you for your contribution to music history 'Unc'πΆπ΅πΌπ΅πΆπ΅πΌ
A lot of the blues singers were and still is the originals. Elvis Presley didn't create hound dog. Big Mama Thornton created that sound. Give honor to whom honor is due
If The BBC wants to make some money ,they ought to release the rights to their music documentaries to Blu ray & Dvd.. So the people who live outside of Britian can both buy ,watch & enjoy them
from Wikipedia: "The diddley bow is a single-stringed American instrument which influenced the development of the blues sound. It consists of a single string of baling wire tensioned between two nails on a board over a glass bottle, which is used both as a bridge and as a means to magnify the instrument's sound."

Cool Doc, thank you. I have loved the blues for over 50 yrs,...... acoustic, electric, and then how it transferred to the British youth in the late 50-early 60's and how they evolved the blues and brought it back to its home, America. Much of the USA was done with the blues in the 50's and not many wanted to here it anymore because it was all about the bad times they had. To be associated with the blues back then was to be dirty, dumb, and lost in the past. When the blues electrified it took on a new power, it made you move, dance and you could tell your stories of being held down without a "in your face" protest. Many southern and white only radio stations wouldn't play the loud blues and the government tried to stop rock and roll, or "jungle music" as it was called. It was threat to "decent people" and they did have certain success in shutting it down......for a short time, but with Chuck Berry and then when the Brits turned it into something cool, danceable, fun, there was no way to put it back in the can. Thank you Chess bros. America will be hearing alot more blues soon thanks to trouble tRump will cause and the depression his regime will bring.
