In my opinion, blues music is one of the most significant genres of the past 120 years. The sheer number of fans and musicians influenced by this remarkable genre is astounding, yet it doesn't receive the recognition it truly deserves. I love the Blues.🎵🎶

I was just talking to my Pops today. Had a core memory unlocked. His ex-wife/my-egg-donor got a Muddy Waters album from a friend and left it in the trunk of her car. This was like 1984. The album warped and my Dad, whom I have never seen cried, started boiling water to stretch the vinyl out. His tears made me realize how precious this music was and what my bio-mom had ruined by ignorance. I remember him crying on the phone offering the person who lent it to us: offering his car or whatever for the warped LP. Talk about the BLUES..... luckily the person had another copy, but still.... the records were sparse back then.....

Skip James has the sweetest most mournful voice. Pure as a bell and sadder than a death in the family. Also, great to see Shirley Collins here who was integral to Lomax's process. She travelled with him, recorded, edited, transcribed..basically his right hand lady, and a brilliant musician in her own right. But oh that Leadbelly footage...yikes, it's cringe worthy. How fucking humiliating, and he didn't get a penny for it.
