Some of them guide you throughout your adventure and provide you with important tools. However, others will try to annoy you, falsely accuse you, make you question your life choices, and say the most brutally offensive and nonsensical things you've ever heard.

According to Gen 4 hackers you can't get trade evolutions from NPCs at all because of a bug. So the fact that mindys haunter is holding an everstone is mostly to cover up the bug

On the topic of creepy NPCs like the Celadon Gym old guy and the Hiker from Gen 5, there's a Kindler exclusive to Emerald near the Weather Institute that approaches you saying he likes kid trainers. I always laugh my ass off when I replay the game and that guy jumps at me saying that out of nowhere

Holy shit I just realized why Wailord and Relicanth are required for the puzzle- they have a combined total of 6 Dots on their bodies - Relicanth has 1 on each side and wailord has a line of 4 on its back 🤯

I swear there's a little girl NPC in Black & White or Black2 & White2 in Mistralton who says something along the lines of "I've not been feeling well recently but I'll be fine so long as I have my Litwick with me" which is secretly messed up as Litwick's pokedex entries talk about how Litwick absorbs people's life force implying that this girl is having her life drained out of her by her Litwick and has no idea

My headcanon for illegal moves is that the way pokémon level up in the games simply represents how our player character raises them. Different training methods yield different results. That's also why pokémon can get new moves on their lists, or learn moves whose type wasn't in the game before. Characters in previous games didn't know those moves to teach them. If a move gets taken off the list? Your current character doesn't train their pokémon in a way that leads to them learning it.

17:25 Unrelated to ghost girls, when ZA came out people were really wondering if the new Kalos game will answer "No, you are not the one" thing. Of course ghost girls are just a joke by GameFreak so I never really assumed this would get any follow up.

However in that game there is exactly one character whose very first line of dialogue in the whole game is exactly "So, you are the one......"

That character is L, he says it right after you beat Zygarde for the first time.

About the kids in shorts:

In the Battle Tower in Gen.4 there are a couple NPC that mention shorts

One of them wonders for how long is he going to wear shorts, one calls himself "The King in shorts" and "The prince in shorts"

This is actually really interesting from a game design perspective because these are great examples of how significant quotes that are said by throwaway characters & have no payoff come off as awkward of confusing because we expect every major quote to reinforce the game's mechanics or story
