The saddest part about this whole disaster is that NOBODY died from the crash itself. Everyone who died, died because of the captain's incompetence and the crew's general lack of coordination.

Bit of clarity. Captain changed into a suit because hes SUPPOSED to stay and aid in the evacuation. But people dont always know what the captain looks like. Especially in an emergency where a lot is happening. The uniform would be the main identifying feature. So the suit would theoretically disguise his identity as he sneaks off the boat like a coward.

I would like to mention Giuseppe Girolamo. He was a 30 yo musician working on the ship, he gave up his seat on the lifeboat to a mother with her child even though he wasn't able to swim and sadly passed away that night.

The real tragedy is that the judge who allowed the cruise company to dodge responsibility isn't rotting in the same cell as Schettino.

@20:50 Why did he change out of his uniform into a suit?

Because he wanted to blend in with the passengers. While most people may not know what the captain looks like, they do have a general idea of what they wear, so by swapping into a suit not only will the people assume he's a passenger like themselves, allowing him to escape the ire of the mob, but he'll also be given access to the rescue boats early, as otherwise he'd likely only be one of the last people to be evacuated due to the ethical duty of the captain being the last one to leave the ship.

45:29 For those who dont know, the officers were legitimately in the wrong for a shocking amount of things. They basically let them go to roll on the captain.

It is clear, he was wrong, but it is shameful the way his officers not only acted, but refused to act. Their hesitate likely doomed a few lives, which is considered immensely disgraceful for maritime officers.

Internet Historian reactions are like a rite of passage at this point, but I never get tired of watching them lol

2:34 As someone else said, they are stacking the curse debuff for that one

Imagine having a ship worth 570 million and then skimping hard on the crew so you don't have an actual Captain or helmsman

If you watch an Internet Historian video, you can't skip the ads. The ads are part of the act.

In all fairness though he did not rise from Head of Security to Captain. He was already a Certified Captain. You see Captains certified to Command such large vessels are actually rare to find. So when one of Carnival Cruises Captains was soon to retire they poached Schettino from a different Cruiseline ahead of the other Captains retirement. But they had no place for him as a Captain yet so they made him Head of Security until the Captain slot they hired him for became vacant.

She just needs the No Man's Sky one to complete the triflecta and ascend as vtuber.

The call between between the coast guard (De Falco) and the captain is epic. Worth listening to the whole thing.

I think they played 'My Heart Will Go On' because the crew was told not to let on how bad it was but someone wanted to warn everyone.

What made Schettino so easy to scapegoat into becoming the sole one to be sent to prison was the fact that he lied to his own superiors , to the point that they learnt of the full depth of the disaster from a *national news-show owned by a "compromised" politician (Silvio Berlusconi) * instead of him.

The original video got a few things wrong mainly when referring to Titanic. Titanic had 6 compartments breached and could withstand 5 breached compartments. Costa Concordia could handle 2 breached compartments and had 3. He also incorrectly called Titanic a cruise ship. She was not a cruise ship she was an ocean liner. I believe the actual largest cruise ship disaster before this was actually the Wilhelm Gustloff which was a German cruise ship that was evacuating German civilians near the end of WW2. It was torpedoed by the Soviets and sank with 10600 on board 9600 of those men women and children died in the sinking. And interesting fact. The actor who played John Jacob Astor in the 1997 Titanic movie was actually a survivor of the Wilhelm Gustloff and his terror in the sinking staircase scene was genuine PTSD from the Gustloff. Oh and one last thing he didn’t mention. If the ship hadn’t spun around after hitting the rock it would have slid off an underwater cliff sinking deep underwater and likely wouldn’t have been recoverable. It also would have resulted in countless more deaths. All things considered the ship sank in the best way.

40:21 Am I the only one who needs to hear more of Cy singing?

Props for taking the time to read the little texts of info that pop up throughout the video.

It's funny how expressive your model gets with all the twists from the video. XD You just know you are hitting all those expressions IRL.

The shittiest part is that the multi-billion dollar corporation who HIRED all these incompetent people because they were cheaper than high quality crew got off with no liability due to judicial corruption...
