My Debut Album ‪‪@LolliWren‬ "To Build a Sea": linktr.ee/lolliwren

In this video, I (a contemporary voice specialist) analyse Heart performing they're iconic version of "Stairway to Heaven" live at the Kennedy Center, whilst listening to it for the first time.

I explain and demonstrate Ann Wilson's vocal techniques, re-create the surprise choral section and ultimately tell you what I think makes this version of such a legendary song, legendary in it's own right. (Robert Plant seemed to think so, what an adorable reaction.)

If we are meeting for the first time, HELLO GORGEOUS! I'm Lolli, a voice teacher and vocal anatomy nerd specialising in contemporary techniques. I have a degree in vocal performance, and I am studying for a masters degree in voice pedagogy. I sing aaaall the time! Pop, jazz, rock, metal, soul, Carnatic and I am constantly learning and practising new vocal skills. I just bloody love singing. It's my favourite thing in the whole world, and because I love you, I want you to sing too.

I believe everyone can sing, and my mission with this channel is to break down techniques that are so often portrayed as something to be exclusively accessed by people with a special talent. Well. Special talents can be learnt, and I am here to teach them to you.

The fact that Ann Wilson was 62 at this point in time is just incredible

The story goes that Robert Plant invited Jason to the event, but Jason told him he already had plans and couldn't make it.

That's Yo Yo Ma rocking out to the guitar solo! S-tier cello master.

Did you really just do that? Recreate the choir with your own Fairy Voice Mother voice? Holy moly! That's something I've never seen before. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Ann Wilson is great, all agree. But I think sister Nancy has big cojones and deserves great praise for walking out on this stage, before LZ and all, and starting the song acoustically, and beautifully!

I was working at the Kennedy Center during the time this was filmed and it was literally all anyone was talking about for months after. I did try and get employee tickets to this but as you can imagine, demand was insanely high. It was Led Zeppelin after all. The huge smile on Jimmy's face throughout and Robert Plants’s struggle to keep his emotions in check tell you how special this was not just for anyone listening but for the lucky few who were in the Concert Hall at the time.

Ann Wilson indisputably has one of the best voices in rock history. End of story.

Your ability to recreate any vocal technique from Jinger to this belt never fails to impress me

The guy having a hard time holding back his tears is apparently the one who most struggled with the early death of their drummer, whose son is the surprise drummer here.

@AwareMom 5 months ago

This is by far the best cover of that song.

The drummer is the son of the original drummer for Led Zeppelin. His father, John Bonham, famously wore a bowler hat when he was on stage. The bowler hats worn by Jason and the chorus, is in tribute to John Bonham.

As someone in another comments section said:
"You are watching Rock Legends,
cover Rock Gods,
in front of said Rock Gods,
on a night the Rock Gods are being honored for their rock godliness,
choosing the Rock Gods' most famous song.
And they slayed it."
I can't agree more.

big respect to the guitarist - I can't imagine how he felt, doing that solo in front of Jimmy Page . . . . bit of pressure there . . .

Jimmy looks like the proudest dad ever.

Doesn’t matter how many times I experience this performance, the hair on my arms stands up, I get shivers down my spine, and I tear up.Loved hearing your take. Bravo!

The photo-sensitive man was Yo-yo Ma.

John Bonham was their drummer who passed away. They had invited that drummer's son, Jason, to sit with them in his father's stead but he told him he had a prior engagement. He showed up as the drummer for their tribute!!!! Warmed my heart! The Derby hat the drummer is wearing is just like one his father always wore so the hat is a bow to him!

Fairy Voice Mother FLAWLESSLY demonstrates how one of rock's most iconic vocalists makes her vocal majic happen.

Led Zeppelin's lead singer, Robert Plant, was brought to tears because of the drummer, Jason Bonham. Jason is the son of John Bonham, the band's original drummer and Robert's best friend, whose death in 1980 resulted in the end of the band. They had invited Jason to represent his Dad at this ceremony honoring Led Zeppelin. But Jason told them he had a scheduling conflict. The conflict turned out to be walking out on stage to surprise the band by playing the drums during the tribute. Look at how surprised and happy Robert is when they introduced Jason at the beginning. The tears came as Robert thought about his friend and was sad he could not be there. It's also very poignant to watch Jason look up toward heaven, thinking undoubtedly about his Dad, as Anne sings the word heaven in last line of the song.
