“We don’t give a shit about your phone” is so funny. I saw in another comment someone was like “how many times do you think people have tried to sacrifice their phones” and it cracks me up because like. You brought this on yourselves babes. I bet as soon as they got back to the Black and White it was all “well if SOME of us didn’t use social media to harvest souls -“
I just noticed that Tinky is reaching towards Peter when they realize that Peter might be sacrificed, he WANTS that because he wants Peter. I like the idea of him suggesting that to the other lords CONSISTENTLY in the Black and White. Like he just WOULD NOT SHUT UP about it and Wiggly was like 'FINE WE'LL SUGGEST THAT TO THEM FIRST AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.' Imagine how pissed he was when he didn't die lol.
The way Jon delivers "WHATEVER WE WANT" in the digital ticket is so deep and visceral in my mind that I don't think comes across in the pro-shot. Sends a shiver down my spine.
I love the idea that the Lord's in Black have a new outfit in their 'human form' depending on where they are being summoned. So they have a 'teenager look' for the high school; a 'theatre crew look' for Starlight Theatre; maybe a 'business/ coorporation look' (or 'out shopping look') for the Lakeside Mall; and a similar 'office work attire' for the CCRP office building. And then, for the Waylon Hall house, love the idea of them wearing early 1900s attire.
*Lords in Black being summoned Them: oooooh, which look is it gonna be this time?!
Someone who's good at costume design please get on this!
I can't stress enough about the choreography. For one, its already amazing, but something 90% of people didn't notice is this.
Look at the dances they start off with. Every line, they swap dances. For example, the start off with their own, then Nibbly takes on Blinky's dance, while Tinky takes Nibbly's dance, and it keeps swapping around with them all and its just amazing to rewatch and see it. Its wild how good the attention to detail is.
Love the detail of Steph reaching out and holding onto Peter when Tinky says he wants Peter in his toy box - such a cute action considering they're all terrified, and a good nod back to how she tried protecting Peter when Max was hunting them all.
I'm genuinely obsessed with how Starkid perfects their growing feelings towards eachother, and the pain of how many times Steph tries to help/protect Peter from getting hurt only to become the one firing the gun at him...
I think the digital ticket was much better in this song because it shows the sheer scale and power of the lords in black and the proshot only really did close ups and didn’t show a lot of Corey and Curt :’(
A little movement analysis of the opening dance and how each Lord does it slightly differently.
Sooo, working from left to right, we start with Pokey! Exactly as you'd expect, he's moving in grand, sweeping gestures. He moves fluidly and theatrically. Very animated. It's exactly the thing you'd find in theater, where it's visible from everywhere within the room, yet elegant enough to feel at least somewhat natural. Peak theater kid behavior.
Nibbly is surprisingly static in his movements. It all seems optimized to make him look as 'feminine' and pleasing as possible. He sticks out his hip nearly dramatically, lets his skirt sway with his movements and generally keeps facing the audience. Generally, these would be things he'd see from the Honey Queen contestants during the talent show/ beauty pageant.
Wiggly is goin through the movements aggressively. There's considerable force behind all the gestures, letting his arms stretch farther outwards. When he crouches down for Tinky's move, he crouches all the way, during Pokey's move he basically reaches to the sky with how far he stretches his arms up. It does create a bit of a looming presence, like he isn't exactly sure with how much force a human would move.
Blinky's dance is optimized for visibility. Bold, strong movements with visible lines. Great for a silhouette and for the visually impaired. Also perfect for communicating long-distance. This notably follows general design principles too, where a design is optimized for the brain to cleanly interpret the shapes it's seeing. It fits his theme with vision and eyes perfectly.
All of Tinky's movements are very angular. Take what Pokey is doing and flip it on its head. Where Pokey is moving with sweeping, rounded gestures, Tinky makes corners with his limbs and is creating straight lines. Think gymnastics vs cheerleading lol. It works well to convey the box/maze-like elements of his powers and design. Also, the energy this allows also lets his chaotic personality shine through.
Feel free to add to this, I'd love other people's insight and notes <3
