Join me as I explore Chabahar and Beris in Iran’s Balochistan—a journey through local markets, remote villages, rugged landscapes and a beautiful fishing harbour near Pakistan.
After leaving my hostel and booking a cab, I explore Chabahar, where I’m shocked to see petrol queues stretching roughly 2–3 kilometres. These scenes offer a glimpse of the fuel difficulties I encountered during my visit amid wartime uncertainty.
On the road to Beris, I pass small villages, visit a local village market and stop at Lipar Lake, famous as the Pink Lake—although it wasn’t pink when I visited! In Beris, I discover breathtaking views overlooking the fishing harbour, boats and fishermen below.
Along the way, I repeatedly spot vehicles carrying fuel, which I understand to be part of the cross-border petrol smuggling trade with Pakistan. Seeing so many of these vehicles leaves me stunned.
Back in Chabahar, I explore the local Baloch market and meet people from Pakistan. I also share the uneasiness I felt while travelling, including my personal concerns about security and kidnapping.
This is my firsthand experience of Iran’s Balochistan: its everyday life, striking scenery and unexpected moments along the way.
