Episode 2 of our FARM RENOVATION… and the jobs are already piling up! 🪵🏡
We’ve taken on an old house and smallholding in the Welsh countryside, and with winter on the horizon there’s one problem we need to sort — FIREWOOD.
We’ve got plenty of wood around the farm, but absolutely nowhere sensible to store it.
So this week, I’m building a traditional timber LOG STORE from scratch and trying to make something practical that actually looks like it belongs alongside our old Welsh cottage.
Of course, nothing is ever quite that simple…
There’s still the sewage treatment plant to sort, acres of land that need bringing back under control, old buildings that need attention and a house renovation that feels like it’s getting bigger every time we look at it.
We’re learning as we go, making mistakes, meeting the people around us and slowly figuring out what it actually takes to bring an old rural property and neglected smallholding back to life.
This is real countryside renovation — DIY, traditional building, woodworking, firewood, land management, old house restoration and everything that comes with moving to the Welsh countryside.
Welcome back to ON THE FARM.

This being an hour long is perfect viewing.
And all the family being involved is lovely, these memories will be on here for life.
The wood shed is great & your right, you need another shed that size. It's surprising how quickly you burn through logs.
To the other post whom said he lives locally and will drop a load to you.
Brilliant: it's time some one paid it forward to kirk.
Will continue to watch your content whether it's your renovation or your plastering.
I wish you the best of luck with everything.
Looking forward to seeing all the progress. I think this is going to be the best viewing on YouTube.
Firstly I must say that I love watching your videos but Johnstone's Farm 😅 is on a different level, can't wait for the next episode.
Maisey you do a fantastic job behind the camera with all the different angles and involving all the family including the pets and the one to one interviews are also great.
I am looking forward to watching the new project coming together and wish you all the best for your new home in Wales. 😊
Wish you the best of luck with the new place.
