Here’s some more tips:
Try folding in your pinky finger when shooting a pistol with a standard grip (non orthopedic).
Hold the trigger after the shot and keep pointing at the target.
Zoom in the minimal amount when using a scope (zooming in too much exaggerates movement making you overcompensate for minimal movements).

First mistake was " power " was the way to go , from  my own perspective within boundaries as to what shooting you are doing less can  mean more . Cheers.

Good advice for a new shooter mate. The one practice i would say is mandatory...."When you have squeezed the trigger , FREEZE for a couple of seconds until you see the pellet hit it's mark. It's not a race.
That will condition you not to go of target, an air rifle is relatively low velocity gun, give it a chance to do it's stuff!!!!

Tune your gun to the pellets not the other way around. Pick the pellets your intended use.

Some good pooints well made.A tip regarding pellets, at first try using the weapons own brand; for example air arms pellets in air arms guns, which whilst not definitive is a good starting point. My biggest error is snatching the trigger, from air weapons to fire arms; probably guilty of this at least once in a range session. Sixty years of shooting and l still manage to do it and is the most common mistake made by new shooters l have seen. Master the basics and everything else will fall into place.

I definitely am quite guilty of picking and using "wrong" pellets.😂 Cheap RWS Hobbys etc. But I of course am mostly into just replica plinking, and not considering me much of a marksman anyhow, and so the pinpoint accuracy not always been the most important to me.
Recently though I did buy myself a .22 Snowpeak AP1000. Started just with Gamo Pro Match wadcutters to sight it in to 30 meters. The "groups" were always some 5cm big. Had been "saving" my more expensive JSB Exact Junbo Diabolos cuz them being not as cheap as Gamo and RWS pellets that I've mostly been using. But, O decided to try them out even though for a couple of mags.. Yup. Not switching back from them JSBs. The group went immediately to a one single fingertip hole at that 30 meters. To get it possibly any smaller, I oughta buy a better scope..

I had no idea about the variability of a rifle's performance being so dependant on the ammunition used when I first got my rifle. After looking into it, this seems like a commonly understood kind of thing. So if it's a well known phenomenon, why then do pellet manufacturers not sell trial packs of their pellets? I don't need any more than 5 - 10 pellets to know they aren't right for my rifle. Yet tins are sold containing usually no less than 150 pellets. It's a waste of money. I'd happily buy a variety pack of different head shapes and different weights--say, five different pellet types at a count of thirty each. There's your damn 150 pellets you're forcing me to buy either way. But now I won't end up with 500+ pellets I'm never going to shoot because they don't work in my gun. Why has no one thought of this?.. 🤔

I've recently taken up pistol shooting after many years & am saving for a rifle that I intend to purchase toward the end of the year & join a range. I would like to hear how people overcome certain visual issues. Recently, I discovered that I have a slight cast on my right eye (looking inward towards my nose). I am a right handed shooter so is it just a case of zeroing the scope, when I get the rifle, to that eye with the cast or is it more complex than that?

Choosing a compatible pellet is a common theme on all help sites, But! is grouping, which even if you unknowingly had the optimal pellet must be very dependent on many things, assuming eyesight and controllable and repeatable gun stability is a massive variable, how do you tell where to start?
Is there an established list of priorities to work through, ultimately leading to the correct choice, or do you have to spend as much on pellets as you did on the gun to arrive at what 'you think' is is the best one?
