Trump BBGX vs Bismarck & Tirpitz: 2030's US Defiant Battleship vs WWII Bisma...

Can a modern US Navy destroyer defeat the largest battleship ever built? Today in Sea Power, we simulate an epic asymmetric naval battle between a 2020s Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer and the legendary WWII IJN Yamato super battleship.

The Arleigh Burke brings cutting-edge technology, including the AN/SPY radar, Tomahawk cruise missiles, ESSM, SM-2, SM-6, and its versatile 5-inch naval gun. It has incredible detection and missile capabilities—but virtually no armor.

Standing against it is the mighty IJN Yamato, protected by up to 26 inches of armor and one of the toughest citadels ever put to sea. Armed with everything from 25mm anti-aircraft guns to the massive 18.1-inch main guns—the largest naval guns ever mounted on a warship—the Yamato is built to absorb punishment and deliver devastating firepower.

Will modern missiles overcome the Yamato's legendary armor, or will the greatest battleship in history prove that heavy guns and thick steel still reign supreme?

Watch this Sea Power naval combat simulation to find out who wins this ultimate modern destroyer vs WWII battleship showdown.

Captain of Arleigh Burke sends radio message to Iowa " I think we need to borrow your boat".

By the end of the fight that Yamato will have just been a citadel with some vaguely ship looking stuff hanging off it.

Last man on Yamato to Tokyo: "The Emperor's portrait is safe in the citadel. We're all drinking ship's stores and guarding it until this mysterious rain ends."

Sorry Yamato crew your permanent hearing loss is not service connected

"Only land attack Tomahawks have bunker-penetrating warheads"
You can bet if anyone was deploying Yamato class battleships, this would not be the case.

This felt like the Burke bullying the Yamato for most of the vid, then giving it a free shot because it started feeling bad.

A decade ago, Lockheed Martin proved you could accurately launch LRASMs from a Mk.41 VLS. It would be cool to see how this fight turns out when you swap out a 140lb SM6 warhead with a 1,000lb LRASM warhead. It also has the autonomous seeker that can be programmed to target specific ships as well as specific parts of ship (although I doubt that can be modeled in SIM)

Floating doesn't mean she's capable of fighting. It's effectively blind even with the citadel intact

When the Yamato started firing I was like, "Oh shi run Arleigh Burke ruuun!" 😂

Torpedo goes in the water

"Hello booboo"

Thought he was talking about the Torepdo finding the ship. That was hilarious timing.

When seeing the title of this video, I imagined the Burke just dancing around Yamato out of main gun range of the battlewagon.

You might add Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors to your reading list if it isn't on there already.

That crew would have to be freaking out at the accuracy of their adversary.

That many hits would have to be seen as nothing less than supernatural.

Cap, you used the wrong Yamato. You were suppose to model the Space Battleship Yamato with the Wave Motion Gun...LOL! Video valued by a valued viewer!

22:10 That is wholesome!

Don't forget at Samar, Johnson and Hoel, engaged Yamato and cruisers with 5 inch guns and Kurita said f this I'm out, took centre force and ran back to San Bernadino.

In the initial phase, The yamato crew would think they are been hitting by an aircraft carrier with a lot of strange kamikaze plane.

If you have the models, you should try the new CPS Zumwalt upgrade against Admiral Nakhimov (the Kirov Class one), since that's both the USN and Russia taking their expensive fail-ships and upgrading them into.... usefulness....?
I also love seeing the attack-pyramid, so any chance to see Zummy makes me a happy viewer 😂.
