This rapid-fire AI-generated commentary is so stupid. Thanks for attempting to explain it all, Shohei. If people kept spamming misinformation about my culture, I probably wouldn't have as much patience as you.

日本に旅行きただけの人が、日本の間違った情報を発信するのにはウンザリしている。ていうか、日本に来たこともないのかもしれませんね..

i am a professional ethnoguesser, a graduate of asian family. Half of these dance reels are chinese and korean.

A lot of scammers have been spread fakes about Japanese culture, history, and customs. Dudes who call themselves JP or samurai but are so poor at JP lang also make money by telling lies. If you report such content on the platform they do nothing. So thanks to Shohei for brought them to light

there are so many of these clips are from korea and china, you can se easily see them,
when you know, you know.

Even if you just watch anime and your impression of Japan is 100% based on the fictional worlds of anime, you will still have more info than these tictok "creators."

I'm not Japanese but a Thai, foreign resident in Japan. To be honest I came here with the least exposure to these content so being bombarded with them recent, it feels out of touch and sometimes even lowkey racist 😅 Thailand has had a lot of trash western influencers spreading misinformation too (for the longest time too probably), kinda sad that asian countries are being made fun of as wow factor for content 🥲

I’ve been to Japan 5 times, but seeing these videos frustrate me all the time as well even tough i’m just a small Belgian.

First of all that female AI voice in those videos bothers me so much i get headaches, and also ‘in Japan this and that’ Japanese are all different, i got compliments on my tattoos for instance, also that over usage of the song ‘Stay With Me’ by Miki Matsubara (RIP)… all this gives me so much stress with all those clown accounts.

The only tip i can give for anyone wanting to visiting Japan, be respectful, you will get a lot of respect back and just who you are in your home country. Don’t look up influencer videos, please don’t.

I'm Italian and I have an elderly uncle who, despite decades of me explaining to him that it's not true, is convinced that in Japan, burping loudly at the table is good manners and a sign of appreciation for the food. Eh.

No matter where you travel, use common sense and basic good manners. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

チップは無礼ではない。ただチップの文化が無いから店員さんを困惑させる。それに客から勝手にお金を貰ったら店長に怒られる可能性もあるのでチップは渡さない方がいい。対応が面倒。

Another thing that annoys me that sometime they stole video from japanese creators and put some voice over and change total the subject and spread more misinformation, like they got a vid from a girl doing shatyuuhaku and they said she was living inside her car because living in Tokyo or big cities is too expensive, whatta heck. :/

Japanese here. As for eating while walking, it's generally considered inappropriate in Japan, except in certain specific places or situations. In Japanese culture, meals are typically meant to be enjoyed at home or in restaurants. There are exceptions, of course—such as during summer festivals or in areas known for street food. So when visiting Japan, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and consider whether it's an appropriate situation for eating on the go.

“Hair that looks too adult”

TF does that even mean?! 💀😂💀😂

I'm convinced that the reason Westerners still can't tell the difference between Japan, China, and Korea is because of intentional confusion, like in this video. Most of the footage in this video is from either Korea or China. The girls are beautiful, but they look unnaturally similar, and the obvious AI inclusion is truly creepy. The "uniforms" in this video are cosplay, more like "costumes" than "uniforms." Typical uniform skirts are knee-length, and only sociable girls would modify them into miniskirts.  Shouldn't be lumped in with anime, idols, or concept cafes (lol). Anyway, I can't help but wonder if there's a rule that requires viewers to dance and shake their hips during filming. Maybe these girls are K-pop fans. Shohei,-san why not collect questions from your confused viewers and make a video answering them?

A lot of these "did you know" facts are either just made up clickbait for AI-slop content, or someone who skimmed through a reddit blog post of someone who is an expert after they spent a month vacationing there.

There are other problems as well.
There are people who pretend to be Japanese and post comments or videos about Japan.
Many of these videos are malicious and intended to tarnish Japan's image.
People who pretend to be Japanese do so with the aim of tarnishing Japan's image.
I won't say which country they are from, but they are from countries you can imagine.
I ask them questions by making simple sentences using kanji characters.
They can't answer!

In Japan, they are called ateji, and foreigners cannot read them.

The worst part is if someone is doing casual research on Japan before visiting, they will most likey see this content first and take it at face value.

On a side note, some people have claimed that a lot of these "facts" come from people that are either experiencing post university / school life or a big city for the first time. Granted, there are other reasons for the misconceptions but sometimes, I think it may also come down to the uploader themself. Like in what way did you not know eating on trains or on buses is rude and messy? Unless that was something the content creator did freqently in their home country...
