David said “No thank you” when his local Ford dealership offered him just £300 for his beloved Ford Escort XR3i, a car he had paid £10,500 for brand new in 1988.
Rather than let it go for a fraction of what he paid, David tucked the XR3i away in his garage. And now, all these years later, he has finally decided it is time for the car to find a new home.
Last week, David invited Guy from Anglia Car Auctions over to take a look, and what a treat this car is!
With just 63,000 miles on the clock, this 1988 Ford Escort XR3i remains remarkably original. The only obvious change is the radio, but even that is safely tucked away in the boot, ready to be reunited with the car. The original dealer number plates are still fitted too.
And then there is the paperwork. David has kept everything beautifully together in a folder, including the original service book, extended warranty documentation and plenty of history.
David gives us a full tour of the XR3i and shares its history, memories and the story of how this car became part of the family.
Then Neil has the job of extracting the XR3i from its long term garage home, and surprisingly, it turns out to be one of his easiest extractions ever!
For David, this Escort has become much more than just a car. It has been part of the family for decades, so saying goodbye is understandably a very emotional moment.
Now this wonderfully original Ford Escort XR3i is heading to auction at Anglia Car Auctions with NO RESERVE.
