I'm 59 years old, and retirement is just around the corner. So, I decided to finally figure out how much I pay into the German pension system, and how much will I get back?
I see my pension contributions every month on my payslip. I pay my share, and my employer pays about the same. This adds up to about €600 per month. But what kind of pension will this be in the future?
In this video, I explain in simple terms what pension points (Entgeltpunkte) are, what determines their number, and how much one pension point is worth today.
We'll also compare pensions and prices in Germany in 1980, 2000, 2015, and 2026. We'll look at the cost of food, gasoline, and housing, and what portion of the pension went toward these expenses.
I'll also share my situation: my time in Lithuania, my move to Germany, working here since 2015, and my rough estimate of my future German pension.
And of course, let's fantasize a bit: what would happen if I invested the same pension contributions for many years? 😉
What about you? How many years have you been working, what country do you live in, and do you know what pension you'll receive? Let me know in the comments—it's very interesting to compare real-life stories. ❤️
The calculations in the video are for illustrative purposes only. The actual pension amount depends on your individual insurance period, earnings, pension points, and other factors.
